I finally have a tutorial on MediaWiki Skinning for 1.18+ online on
Redwerks' Blog.
http://blog.redwerks.org/2012/02/08/mediawiki-skinning-tutorial/
The tutorial covers the general conceptual areas of a skin, laying out the
files for a skin, all the small boilerplate pieces used to output types of
content, an overview of things you should test for in your skin when
implemented, a bit on i18n and related info on variants and rtl, and a
touch on accessibility.

I am using SyntaxHighlight 1.0.8.10 (GeSHI 1.0.8) on MediaWiki 1.18.1
Keywords are coloured as they should but no links to the specified URLs are created. How can I enable keyword linking?
Thanks,
Boris
I have been messing with mediawiki 1.18 for a while now. I think what it needs is an administration page.
Why is there a reliance on manually editing LocalSettings.php and uploading it to the site? Why is there not an Admin page that edits this online?
I would love to implement this but it might just be out of my ability to do so.
It is so difficult to understand mediawiki settings and the mediawiki online-help is not very helpful.
What do you think?
Thank you.
Hello everyone,
My name is Guillaume Beaudoin and I work for a college in the IT department. For a while now I manage a MediaWiki installation to document our work inside the IT department. Today, I was happily surprised by an announcement in our internal corporate newsletter regarding my involved to MediaWiki through the management of our 3rd party wiki. A copy of the article (it's in French) is available at http://wiki-info.bdeb.qc.ca/public/enbref_page2.pdf.
I would like to express my thanks to everyone involved in the development of the MediaWiki software platform for creating, improving, correcting, releasing, maintaining it!
In particular I want to express special thanks to Reedy and the peoples involved in the database side of MediaWiki for porting the old MSSQL code to the MSSQLBackCompat extension and keeping it working well and to Yaron, Jeroen and the semantic developers for their semantic extensions, in particular the GetData and Semantic Forms extensions.
Like it say in the subject this is a thank you message, so, that's all folks :)
Guillaume
I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon.
This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical
community. We'll be hacking, designing, and socialising.
Our goals for the event are to bring 100-150 people together, with
lots of people who have not attended such events before. User
scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile,
structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we
want you to come!
Some financial assistance will be available -- more details soon.
This event will be hosted by Wikimedia Germany (WMDE) and supported by
the Wikimedia Foundation. Thank you, WMDE!
Dates: June 1-3 2012. Barely-started wiki page, no registration details
yet: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Berlin_Hackathon_2012 . Organizers:
me and WMDE's Nicole Ebber with assistance from Lydia Pintscher and
Daniel Kinzler.
Mark your calendars!

Hi
I want to suppress the link on my subpage to the main page from printing. I can't figure out what class and syntax to use. I have tried in my Print.css:
#link {display: none;}
a:link {display: none;}

John, Patrick, and anyone else who is interested in the MobileFrontend
extension:
John Du Hart is working on a rewrite, aiming to make it less Wikimedia
Foundation-centric, and there is disagreement regarding whether his
rewrite is desired. Please read and comment:

(Can someone please forward this to mobile-l as well? Thanks.)
