Is there a function in MediaWiki core that applies "nowiki" transformations to a string? For example, I'm writing a parser function, and I want its output to be the literal string:
'''foo'''
and not a boldface <b>foo</b>.
I tried CoreParserTags::nowiki(), but this only escapes angled brackets.
Thanks,
DanB
Now I feel stupid. I had not used the vector skin with my other wikis. Someone here just told me there is a dropdown arrow that has the delete move, etc selections.
Thanks,

Subject: Delete and Move not listed as options for pages in our wiki
In our user setting we have
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['delete'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['undelete'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['move'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['edit'] = true;
...
I am an administrator and bureaucrat, but delete and move do not show up when I view a page. I do not have any specific group permissions for Bureaucrat or administrator.
Regular users also do not see delete or move. We all have these menus: Page, Discussion, Read, Edit, View history.
I think there is some configuration that I am missing.
Thanks,
Mary Beebe

I have also been informed, depending on where you are coming from, and what

We're reaching out to you because we'd like you to be our guest at the

design jams, and other discussions about some of the most pressing issues
facing journalism on the open web.
A few examples of what we have brewing:
A deep dive into moving from real-time streams to big-picture pieces

Assembling a "utility belt" for data journalism

A look into verifiability and identity on the web

And tons more.
We think you being in London will make these activities even better.

A bit of a heads up, more for European members, but welcome to anyone
Just wondering if there's any interest in anyone attending Mozillas "Media,
Freedom and the Web" Festival [1], 4th-6th November 2011 in London.
They are looking for people from communities (such as ours, will do a more
public post) to form part of a Human API [2] team, helping people to hack
and use Wikipedia et al in new ways. Or you can attend as a regular attendee
and take part.
Would be quite nice if we can get a mix of technical members, and other
related community people.
I know this is probably more relevant to some of the European based
community, but it is open to all, so people from further afield would also
be welcome if they wanted to attend!
Any interest?
Sam

Hi there,
I am using Lucene-search 2.1.3 as the search engine for my MediaWiki 1.16, and using MWSearch to fetch the results.
It has been working well, but all of sudden, for newly added pages, I can only search for keywords from their page titles. If I search for keywords only from those newly added pages' conntents, I get 0 result.
There is no problem if I search for any old pages.
It seems the Lucene-search only indexes page titles, and doesn't index the new page contents any more.
Any idea would be appreciated,
Ross Xu

Hi wiki guys!
How do I update mediawiki on a shared webhosting? I dont have a shell.
Please dont point me to these websites who are describing "Yeeee, rename the
localsettings and run the installation process again" (like seen here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading/de#Alternative_2:_Erneute_In…
)
So it would be very nice, if someone could give some hints what I need to do
step by step on a shared webhosting package without shell access.
Thanks in advance
