I'm using ImageMagick to render SVG images on my wiki but some of the thumbnails have problems with them. For exampled this SVG image has some pixels in the upper left hand corner that shouldn't be there: http://thecatholicguide.com/wiki/File:Arms_of_Basilica.svg
My wiki is hosted so my only image converting option is ImageMagick. Is there anything I can do to get better thumbnails?
Thanks,
Caitlin

Welcome to mediawiki-l. This mailing list exists for discussion and questions
about the MediaWiki software[0]. Important MediaWiki-related announcements
(such as new versions) are also posted to this list.
Other resources.
If you only wish to receive announcements, you should subscribe to
mediawiki-announce[1] instead.
MediaWiki development discussion, and all Wikimedia technical questions, should
be directed to the wikitech-l[2] mailing list.
Several other MediaWiki-related lists exist:
- mediawiki-api[5] for API discussions,
- mediawiki-enterprise[6] for discussion of MediaWiki in the enterprise,
- mediawiki-cvs[7] for notification of commits to the Subversion repository,
- mediawiki-i18n[8] for discussion of MediaWiki internationalisation support,
- wikibugs-l[9] for notification of changes to the bug tracker.
List administrivia (unsubscribing, list archives).
To unsubscribe from this mailing list, visit [12]. Archives of previous postings
can be found at [3].
This list is also gatewayed to the Gmane NNTP server[4], which you can use to
read and post to the list.
Posting to the list.
Before posting to this list, please read the MediaWiki FAQ[10]. Many common
questions are answered here. You may also search the list archives to see if
your question has been asked before.
Please try to ask your question in a way that enables people to answer you.
Provide all relevant details, explain your problem clearly, etc. You may
wish to read [13], which explains how to ask questions well.
To post to the list, send mail to <mediawiki-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>. This is a
public list, so you should not include confidential information in mails you
send.
When replying to an existing thread, use the "Reply" or "Followup" feature of
your mail client, so that clients that understand threading can sort your
message properly. When quoting other messages, please use the "inline" quoting
style[11], for clarity.
When creating a new thread, do not reply to an existing message and change the
subject. This will confuse peoples' mail readers, and will result in fewer
people reading your mail. Instead, compose a new message for your post.
Messages posted to the list have the "Reply-To" header set to the mailing list,
which means that by default, replies will go to the entire list. If you are
posting a reply which is only interesting to the original poster, and not the
list in general, you should change the reply to only go to that person. This
avoids cluttering the list with irrelevant traffic.
About this message.
This message is posted to the list once per week by <river(a)wikimedia.org>.

Hi all,
I have recently--and apparently successfully--implemented Drupal
authorization for my Mediawiki installation with the AuthDrupal
extension. (Yes, I've tested it with a user account that is not my
own that had not previously been used to log in to the
wiki--ever--in an environment that hadn't been used to access the
Drupal site either.)
But I'm having trouble with the .htaccess file to foreclose access
to Special:Userlogin. The directions suggested by the INSTALL file
at http://wiki.case.edu/CaseWiki:External_Authentication just didn't
do it for me.
From Apache documentation, I gather this should be entirely
unsurprising. Unfortunately, I never have been able to figure
anything out using that documentation--and this was no exception.
So here's my setup: I have a Drupal installation at
http://www.parts-unknown.org/drupal6/ and a MediaWiki installation
at http://www.parts-unknown.org/mediawiki/ . The Drupal
installation is login-only and it would actually be fine if people
hitting http://www.parts-unknown.org/ were automatically redirected
to the wiki as long as access to the Drupal site remains possible.
At the very least, I would like to disable Special:Userlogin.
How do I do this?
Thanks!

I am trying to configure the "External Edit" feature in MediaWiki from [1].
One of the things mentioned (recommended) in there is to put the following
piece of code in User's .js file:
addOnloadHook(function() {
var editTab = document.getElementById("ca-edit");
if (!editTab) return;
var editURL = editTab.getElementsByTagName("a")[0].href;
addPortletLink("p-cactions", editURL + "&externaledit=true", "EE",
"ca-exted", "External editor", "");
});
I am assuming that I might have to put this code in User's standard.js file
[2].
How do I access my personal standard.js file?
My User page is accessible as follow:
http://myserver/wiki/index.php/User:TechGeek
Thanks

Dear all,
If you are interested in social semantic web or MediaWiki development,
especially Semantic MediaWiki related stuff, you may be interested in
attending SMWCon 2011 Spring, please take several minutes to finish this
_pre-conference_ survey to help us make it better for you, of you, and by
you.
(sorry for the multiple post if you have seen it already)
All 13 questions are choices and mostly yes/no answers, only 3 questions are
required to complete the survey.

Hello all,
while trying to update my wiki_family from 1.15.4 to 1.16.0, I see that
update.php tries to update my public schema, which contains no wiki.
My PostgreSQL 8.4.5 setup has one schema per wiki, as described here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Wiki_family#Ultimate_minimalist_soluti…
My LocalSettings contains:
-------
$mysites=array(
array('BarbarasWiki','w_barbara','w_barbara'),
array('Admin Wiki', 'w_admin', 'w_admin'));
foreach($mysites as $site){
if(strpos($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'],$site[1])!==false){$wgSitename=
$site[0];$wgDBmwschema=$site[2];break;}}
##trigger_error("_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'] = " . $_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'] .
", wgSitename =" . $wgSitename,E_USER_ERROR);
if(!$wgSitename && $wgCommandLineMode) {
foreach($mysites as $site){
if(strpos($_SERVER['PWD'],$site[1])!==false){$wgSitename=$site[0];
$wgDBmwschema=$site[2];break;}}}
if(!$wgSitename){trigger_error('Internal Error - Please mail
webmaster',E_USER_ERROR);}
-------
What shall I do to update my schemas?
Thanks, Axel

Basically I want to have different page types that look a little different (mainly a header and footer) in my wiki.
I know I can do this by using different name spaces, or full page templates, but I would rather not have to do that.
Is there any way to do this?
As of now, I am designating the 3 different types of pages using simple templates - {{Article}}, {{Component}}, {{Module}} - These just place a footer on the page, but I would like a footer and a header if possible.
Thanks, -Adam
a comment and a question regarding images:
I have turned an existing website into a wiki that offers basically the same contents (and also looks more or less the same) as before. Using an external hit counter I noticed a decrease in users finding my site. Closer inspection reveals that there are almost no visitors from google images while before about one third found my pages because they were searching pictures. I suspect that this is due to the arcane path to the image files or could there be another reason? Or is Mediawiki consciously discouraging image search?

The web hosting company i'm with now has the ability to upgrade my wiki
software, but i'm hesitant to do so because it might kill my content. I
would be upgrading from the media wiki 1.6 to 1.16 version. What files
would I need to backup on the database and once done do I need to reinsert
those files into the database or should the files in the database carry
over? Have several pages already created for the wiki site and hate to
think about recreating every single page.
