Is anybody else getting tons of user registrations that have spam in the user pages and the usernames are soemthing like "180 buy Viagra"?
I haven't had a chance to test it but doesn't the keyword blacklist block the usage of those words in usernames and userpages?
Also is there a better captcha available.. this bot is getting around the math question

After two years of promising to look at this, I finally did (mostly because
I had to update several wikis to use SMW).
It requires only a very minor patch to GlobalFunctions.php to install, and
I'm working on removing that barrier in the future.
See: http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Extension:NSFileRepo for
full details and installation instructions.
What can this extension do?
The NSFileRepo extension implements a way to restrict access to specified
files and images to a given set of user groups using NameSpace protections.
This provides a more fine grained security model and allows access
restriction to users in specified groups.
Usage
Generically, you use the same syntax as a normal file/image reference link,
adding the namespace between the file specifier ("File","Image", or
"Media"), and the file name:
{FILE_NS}:{Namespace}:{Filename}
Example(Where "Project" is the protected namespace and "ProjectFile.pdf" is
the file to which you wish to limit access):
]
The standard for accessing files/images is generally:

This extension allows you to protect access to files/images, by adding the
namespace text identifier after the file namespace identifier, for
example(Where "Project" is the protected namespace and "ProjectFile.xxx" is
the file to which you wish to limit access):

Limitations of security are the same as for Extension Lockdown. To review
these limitations, [[Extension:Lockdown#Additional_measures | please
reference here]].
To use the full capabilities of this extension (e.g., specific namespace
protections), you will need to install and use the namespace protections
provided through Extension:Lockdown.
This extension was made possible by the introduction of Repository Classes
by Tim Starling - an elegant and brilliant implementation. It uses a new
Local Repository class mechanism. Technical details on how this extension
works can be found here.
This extension has only been tested on 1.15.0, but should work on everything
>= 1.13.0
I will be testing 1.13.0 and 1.14.0 within the next couple of days. As
always, I appreciate any help/advice/support.
Hope this helps!

Hello folks,
I am installing mediawiki on a windows vista machine (don't ask why vista)
with apache, mod php and all the good stuff. I have a virtual host pointing
at a folder which contains the unzipped mediawiki folder. As per
instructions, I go to config/index.php, I see the big form to enter db
passwords, admin passwords etc. When I hit the install button, however, I
get a authentication dialog box asking for some user id and password for my
apache digest realm. Wheres that coming from? What should be the user id and
password here? I cannot go any further because, I basically don't know whats
the user id and password.
What did I miss? Thanks in advance!
Best,
Tim
Hi - I have a table with a different number of rows in each column in
phpwiki:
http://web.mit.edu/london/www/table.htm
Can I make a similar table in mediawiki? I can't find any example on
the web for how to do this. Thanks. - Mark
Hi all,
using the mediawiki API, I can list the pages in a given category. For example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=categorymembers&cmtitle…
returns:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<api>
<query>
<categorymembers>
<cmpageid="22939"ns="0"title="Physics"/>
<cmpageid="24489"ns="0"title="Outline of physics"/>
<cmpageid="1653925"ns="100"title="Portal:Physics"/>
<cmpageid="3445246"ns="0"title="Glossary of classical physics"/>
<cmpageid="22950086"ns="0"title="Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics"/>
<cmpageid="2129107"ns="14"title="Category:Fundamental physics concepts"/>
<cmpageid="4769321"ns="0"title="Timeline of fundamental physics discoveries"/>
<cmpageid="694942"ns="14"title="Category:Physicists"/>
<cmpageid="1198"ns="0"title="Acoustics"/>
<cmpageid="1913676"ns="14"title="Category:Applied and interdisciplinary physics"/>
</categorymembers>
</query>
<query-continue>
<categorymemberscmcontinue="Atomic, molecular, and optical physics|"/>
</query-continue>
</api>
I now want to limit my query to only one MW namespace. I have tried to use the cmnamespace parameter. But
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=categorymembers&cmtitle…
returns the same result. How should I use this namespace parameter ?
Suppose a vandal moves a page to an offensive name and I revert it back. Its still there in the Recent changes. Does any extension exist to clean that up or do I have to go into myPHPAdmin every time to do that?
Hi, I wonder how to make it sure that the column-content (article section)
does not jump up to the top of the browser before settling down to its final
position (see website at Dummipedia.org <http://dummipedia.org/Mike_Tyson>).
The effect is easier to see in the article pages as I have taken out the
Article Title in the homepage.

QST Mountain-toppers:
Next weekend will be the first annual 2000 mile APpalachian Trail Packet radio event where we will atttempt APRS text messaging along the trail from Georgia to Maine.
We have located 14 mountain tops that will make the RF link in 14 hops. But guess what! We dont have someone volunteered to be on Mt Katahdin in Maine to receive it!
Please see www.aprs.org/at-golden-packet.html
Or moe specifically our needs at Katahdin:
www.aprs.org/hamtrails/katahdin.html
The event is officially only 4 hours long, but some of us will go up early and stay late. We want to demo the long haul APRS text messaging capability. And do this annualy so that packet radio gets some respect, instead of ignorance at Field Day...

Just a quick note --
Mail from Bugzilla is now being sent from the address
bugzilla-daemon(a)wikimedia.org instead of
bugzilla-daemon(a)mail.wikimedia.org to (hopefully) play nicer with spam
filters and such. You may need to update your local filters if you're
checking this exact address to put bugmail in a folder.
