Having fixed my database with Platonides' help I have users complaining
that IIS is asking for a password on pages which have images. I've
added NTFS permissions for the IUSR_machine account to the mediawiki
folder in \inetpub\wwwroot so I'm not really sure why this is happening.
I don't get asked for a password, but then I'm a domain admin.

There's a mismatch between your mediawiki code version and your table
layout.
Try
running maintenance/update.php If that doesn't fix it, manually ALTER
TABLE to add the img_sha1 column. You can find a list of the tables in
maintenance/tables.sql

Hello All,
According to the manual the extension/ExtensionFunctions.php is needed for the
extensions extensions/Cite/SpecialCite.php and
extensions/ExpandTemplates/ExpandTemplates.php, and probably for other
extensions also.
Where can I find information about this extension?
How do I activate it?
Thank you for your time

Is there a way to make article names completely case-insensitive? (I
couldn't find anything on a couple of searches of mediawiki.org.)
Preferably case-insensitive but case-preserving.
(Worst case I can think of: having to do it with mod_rewrite rules ...
mod_rewrite is arguably the work of Apache's Satanic Worship
workgroup. Not as bad as SSL, but getting there.)

Hello,
I've installed a new wiki version 1.11 (but older wikis behave like
version 1.11).
Furthermore I've inserted interwiki links from
maintenance/wikipedia-interwiki.sql.
In my wiki are links to the german wikipedia and other wikis.
1st:
Typically I use [[w:de:pagename]] to access the german wikipedia.
This link is expanded to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/de:pagename which
is redirected to
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/pagename and works well.
There's another shortcut 'de' in interwiki.sql which I want to use and
which should be expanded
to http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/ (the last URL above).
When I use [[de:pagename]] to link to the german wiki no link to the
foreign page (empty string) is shown in my wiki.
2nd:
When I call 'special:wantedpages' it seems so, that all pages referenced
from other wikis apear in this list.
This is independent if a page really exist or not, i.e. pages
[[w:de:Kennwort]] or [[w:Free_Software_ Foundation]] exist.
Clicking to german wikipedia links, the corresponding page will be
shown, clicking to the english wikipedia link
the correspnding page will be opened in edit mode.
This is very strange behavior. Can anyone explain this behavior.
Thanks for your help
Wolfgang
The advice in the subject line is correct. Users should never be
deleted from the table for another reason; you leave a lot of messy
references to them lurking about which really does confuse the hell
out of the software.
MediaWiki does not support the deletion of users, and likely never will.

Today I logged onto the server as the IUSR account (that's what the web
server is
running as). This account COULD write to the config directory, so
therefore the message
MediaWiki 1.11.0 is giving me is not true.
Do any of you developers of this wiki know what other problems could
cause MediaWiki to
throw this error ??
"Can't write config file, aborting.
In order to configure the wiki you have to make the config subdirectory
writable by the web server. Once configuration is done you'll move the
created LocalSettings.php to the parent directory, and for added safety
you can then remove the config subdirectory entirely."

I've just installed MediaWiki in Windows 2003 with MySQL 4.1.22, PHP
5.2.5 and MediaWiki 1.11.0.
I have enabled upload of images, but when I select an image for upload I
get the following internal error:
A database error has occurred
Query: SELECT
img_size,img_width,img_height,img_bits,img_media_type,img_major_mime,img
_minor_mime,img_metadata,img_timestamp,img_sha1 FROM `image` WHERE
img_name = 'Campaignlogo.jpg' LIMIT 1
Function: LocalFile::loadFromDB
Error: 1054 Unknown column 'img_sha1' in 'field list' (localhost)
Am I using the wrong version of MySQL or PHP?
When I put the image right in the /images folder, which has all the
correct permissions set, the page fails to load altogether with a 500
Internal Server Error. However the $wgLogo image works perfectly well.

Is it OK to post relevant job adverts to this list? It doesn't appear
to be forbidden anywhere, but I apologize in advance if I am
inadvertently breaking the rules.
Since this is my first post here, I'd better introduce myself. I'm
currently setting up a company which will host an inclusionist fork of
Wikipedia. Over time our website will also collect and integrate data
from other sources.
I'm looking for a person or persons to work as programmers on the website.
Job title: MediaWiki hacker
Essential skills that you will have:
* PHP
* MySQL
* Linux
* familiarity with wikis and Wikipedia
Desirable skills:
* ideally you are an experienced MediaWiki hacker who has written
MediaWiki extensions
* Python
* experience contributing to open source projects
* experience as a website sysadmin, particularly running Ubuntu and Apache.
Pay: negotiable. Initially on a contract basis. Eventually I hope to
offer a full-time job and stock options to a person or persons who
is/are competent and efficient. This is your chance to get in at the
start of what may be the next big thing.
I'm based in Edinburgh, Scotland, and ideally I'd like someone based
in Edinburgh, if not that then in the UK, if not that then anywhere in
the world.

One of our intranet wiki users just asked for a nice bit of
functionality: a "Start a page in this category" button on category
pages.
Starting a page with [[Category:foo]] is easy enough using preload.
But is there a simple way to automatically add a button or link to the
top of all category pages, i.e. without going to each cat page and
adding it by hand?
