Hi,
Tried to install WikiPDF
(http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/*wikipdf<http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/wikipdf>
)
*as an extension which I could really need but getting an error:
*Fatal error*: Call to a member function getContent() on a non-object in *
*****\htdocs\wiki\extensions\wikipdf\wikipdf.php* on line *111*
Any idea or is it worng to ask here? Any better/newer extension to generate
PDF of Wikipages?
TIA
Oliver
Hi all,
i`m looking for a way to implement an "aging" mechanism for documents/articles
to indicate the assumed reliability of the content as part of a quality
management process:
- a new document/article has the 'reliability' status 'green'
- after a three months without changes it turns to 'yellow' and after half an
year to 'red' and has to be 'verified'.
I`m thinking about using the 'talkpage' for this process and now i`m looking
for the neccessary hooks to set this up.
My current ideas are to either:
a) dynamic: search for a 'signature' containing a timestamp on the talkpage
for each document/article and show the appropiate status each time the
document/article is shown.
b)static: use a bot like pybot to do nightly checks (eg, using
special:ancientpages) and change a template on all documents/articles where
appropiate.
(btw: anyone using pybot or another bot for an intranet wiki? can`t get it to
work :( )
Are there better ways to do this? Has someone perhaps already implemented a
similar solution?
many thanks,
dwe

Just fair warning:
We're still not quite done with the database schema updates on the live
Wikimedia servers which has pushed us a couple weeks behind on the full
code updates, and I'd prefer a couple more weeks to shake down the
latest code before putting out a release.
As a consequence, the MediaWiki 1.10 snapshot will come a couple weeks
later than originally scheduled; it will be out by the end of April.
(Running updates in the background takes longer, but minimizes downtime
for our large sites. Wikipedia being offline for two days for a minor
upgrade would likely not be considered too cool. ;)

Since creating the page on Meta a long while ago now, and alerting some
mailing lists of it, this page:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Ideal has now become rather
populated by ideas.
The page asks the question "What would MediaWiki be like if it generated
maximum wiki success?" (i.e. made the most users make the best
contributions?).
I have tried to structure the page, but it could really do with some
cleanup. I see it as an article, as I think it would be most useful for the
content to be edited and reworked into a readable body of coherent ideas.
If we could tidy the page before the meetings discussed by Erik Moeller in
his recent mailing list post, perhaps the document could be useful in their
MediaWiki 2.0 discussions? It is certainly rich with ideas.
Thanks,
Virgil.
Is there a magic word (or other markup) that can be inserted into a page
to mean, "do not cache this page, recompute it every time it's hit?"
Similarly, is there a way to do this within PHP? I have written an
extension (a <sql>...</sql> tag) to do SQL queries and place the results
in a page, and I don't want them cached.
Thanks,
DanB

ANY customer-need is a signal for the original programmers to tune their product, or marketing, to better align with their audience. Grow or die. Nature abhors a vacuum, information fills it. Hey, and if these listservs can tolerate "out of office replies" and cc's of the entire threads, I'm quite confident readers can also handle seeing my full original inquiry.

I'm asking how'd YOU learn so I can teach myself - I want read what YOU read to answer these questions for myself, and more!)

I presume you mean "Go to [[Special:Userlogin]] on your wiki by typing "Special:Userlogin" into the [Search] box" ... however, even "going" to "Special:Listusers" I only get red "Admin (Bureaucrat, Sysop)" links. When you suggest that I "add that via the database" - what I'm asking is "...by doing what...?" In other words, I'm looking for a MediaWiki INSTRUCTION MANUAL someplace. Has anyone else found one that provides a referential resource for MediaWiki? Letting MediaWiki know I'd like one seems a logical act. Hello? MediaWiki? Are you li$tening? Hello?

Anyway, I'll try, but I imagine the call to the template will be visible when editing the page, so the original page contents will not only NOT be visible during editing, but the call itself can then be munged. In other words, I'll explore. I was hoping MediaWiki or someone already explored what to me is hard to imagine is unprecedented, and that there might be a MediaWiki INSTRUCTION MANUAL someplace...]

This week, several education specialists will meet with wiki
technologists in Vancouver to discuss the future of MediaWiki as a
platform for learning & knowledge generation.
The meeting is organized by the Commonwealth of Learning, which hosts
the wikieducator.org project. You can find the agenda on:
http://wikieducator.org/Tectonic_shift_think_tank
It will take place from April 11-13. Participants include Brion Vibber
(Wikimedia Foundation CTO), Sandy Britain (lead developer of the eXe
elearning editor), Joel Thierstein (Executive Director of the
ConneXions project - cnx.org), Murugan Pal (technologist for CK-12,
ck12.org), Merrick Schaefer (technologist for UNICEF's wiki projects),
Samuel Klein (content coordinator for the One Laptop Per Child
Project, laptop.org), and others. The meeting will be facilitated by
myself and Wayne Mackintosh (founder of WikiEducator and education
specialist for COL).
We will think about issues such as:
* What are the best strategies for WYSIWYG editing, wiki
decentralization and synchronization, eLearning interfaces and
features, semantic annotation and structured data, print support,
quality heuristics?
* Should MediaWiki be rewritten from scratch to achieve these goals,
or is an evolutionary approach more sensible?
* What is a sensible model for governance, coordination, and funding
of a combined, multi-institutional MediaWiki 2.0 effort?
If you wish to participate remotely, you can still put in your request
on the above wiki page. I would also like to encourage you to draft a
"vision statement" and to link it under the section "Participants
wishlist". Such vision statements will be taken into account if they
are submitted before April 13 (ideally before April 11).
I apologize for the short notice - things have taken a rather more
ambitious shape than originally very quickly, due to recent meetings
and email exchanges. Still, I expect that this is only the first step
in opening a very serious discussion about the future of MediaWiki
that will involve all key stakeholders. I'd be happy to hear from you.

My organization (the Center for Media and Democracy) occasionally has
need of people with MediaWiki expertise to help with projects related
to our wiki (www.sourcewatch.org). These projects might include
writing or modifying MediaWiki extensions, advising our webmaster
about server/performance issues, helping make modifications to the
skin, etc. We don't currently have a project in the works, but I'm
trying to compile a list of qualified and interested programmers so
that we have some names on file when we need to hire a consultant. If
anyone here thinks you might be interested, please shoot me an email
