Announcing PagesOnDemand extension

Another "Ive been meaning to do this for months" message. Jim Wilson and I made an extension system we call PagesOnDemand a while ago. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:PagesOnDemand We wanted an easy way to force certain pages to use defined templates based on the structure of the page title. With PagesOnDemand, pages are created from templates when users follow links if the link matches a string comparison that tells the PagesOnDemand system that the desired page is of a desired type. For example, pages with titles that match the regular expression '/^PMID:\\d+$/' are recognized by PagesOnDemand.php+PMID_OnDemand.php as being about articles in the scientific literature. When the system recognizes this pattern, it creates a page based on a template for wiki articles about the scientific literature and then forwards the user to the newly created page, instead of to an edit page. PagesOnDemand effectively makes some "red links" behave like "blue links". I call it an extension system since it's an extension that supports the creation of other extension that do the actual work. Announcement: KML Export extension v. 1.2.0

This message is to announce the release of version 1.2.0 of the KML Export extension. Although the extension was online for almost a month already, it wasn't announced due to the lack of user documentation. KML Export is an extension that generates KML files for Google Earth from content in article pages. Users add templates to article pages with geographic coordinates (placemarks) of the subject on the article; the extension provides a special page that scans the articles that contains the placemarks and generates a single KML file, with links leading back to the wiki. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:KML_Export -- Juliano F. Template performance (speed)

If we have long articles on the wiki, that use a template many times, would it help to improve the speed/performance of the page rendering if I didnt put in extra "noinclude" stuff on the template page? I've often wondered why Wikipedia often doesnt have the Template usage details or description on the template page, and why it has this stuff on the Talk page of the template. Any existing article or source that talks about this? Pretty URLs with more than one wiki

Hi My hosting provider uses cPanel. I have three wikis set up to use pretty URLs and my .htaccess in public_html is thus longer than most. So, you have a script which basically pops up an HTML form? Sounds like you want to make a new special page. This would be a page that you can link to, and which can access MW's security features - so you can restrict it to people who have confirmed email addresses, eg. Find another extension that does something similar, and merge your code into it. Either way - I have existing scripts which I've written in PHP that simply allow users to change their LDAP password, etc. I'm looking to throw this code (it's just a form with basic PHP+LDAP support) into MediaWiki so users can change their password from there. Currently I have it linked as an external link and for security purposes, this isn't favorable. Is there any suggestions on how I can begin to go about this? The correct documentation etc would be much preferred.
