Hi Everybody,
I have setup the most recent version of mediawiki on my own single server for a small group project (1,600 people). After setting up Apache, MySQL, and mediawiki, I was crestfallen. There seems to be absolutely no way to change the page editor into a WYSIWYG editor. Most of the people invovled in this project only have enough patience (myself included) to edit and build through a GUI that doesn't require manual coding of the material.
Does anyone know of a more user-friendly wiki, or of a way to accomplish this with mediawiki?
Thank you in advance!

Hello, I have a problem with MW installation. I'm installing MW and there's some text: "Checking environment...\n *PHP 5.2.5 installed\n *Could not find a suitable driver! ...". What I have must to do? -MGrabovsky
Having just set up the very shiny new Mediawiki wikifarm on our
intranet, my boss keeps mentioning that converting the existing
MoinMoin wiki would be *very nice thank you*.
Now then, there are two approaches:
1. Adapt an existing script.
* mm2mw.pl is at http://www.littlejohnconsulting.com/node/18 - this is
what Wikia recommends for people wanting to move a Moin wiki to Wikia.
* moin2media is a Python script done by the Linux Foundation for
in-house use - http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/Old_LSB_Wiki .
Has anyone here used either of these? How did they do? Did they pull
in histories? (We can live without histories but we'd rather not.)
2. Roll our own.
* We could adapt one of the above or write a new direct converter from
scratch - a simple if laborious matter of programming.
* Moin includes export to DocBook (of varying quality) and there's a
DocBook to Mediawiki converter (of varying quality). This is likely to
resemble work, however.
* I'm not even going to attempt to keep histories if we do this.
3. Importing the resulting wikitext or XML.
Is there an easy batch-importer?

Hello, is the Apache HTTP server needed for installation and/or using the MediaWiki on a local computer? Cannot I use another server? Thank you for answer. -MGrabovsky
Hi Katharina,
Thank you! - Although, the extension you have refered to seems to be for "buttonizing" this functionality via the editor, It did point me to a mediawiki FAQ (see the link below) on how to achive my original goal by making only a small change to the LocalSettings.php file.
... I owe ya one :-)

I have this problem when I edit pages I get this error. ...
"A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "SearchMySQL4::update". MySQL returned error "145: Table '.\wikidb\searchindex' is marked as crashed and should be repaired (localhost)". "
The edit is successful but this error is troublesome.
Don't know what to do ... Any suggestions would be great!
Hi,
how can I delete a registered user? I tried using Special:Listusers but I
can't see any option available. Do I have to delete the user over MySQL? I
have only access to PhpMyAdmin. How do I do that?
Thanks in advance!

I use a similar extension, but it does not allow me to re-write the displayed link text.
For example, I would love it if I could write:
<file text="Link Description">\\server\filename.ext</file>
and it would render equivalent to:
<a href="file:///\\server\filename.ext">My Description</a>
Does your extension work this way?
Does anyone know of an extention of this type that works that way?
cheers.

Hello,
how I can add XMPP URI?
I found this one:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:%24wgUrlProtocols
I guess add the "$wgUrlProtocols = array( ..." entry to the
LocalSettings.php is the correct way, but how can assign the speech
bubble from irc:// to xmpp:// too?
