I have a single user on http://fr.chainki.org who is a standard user. How
do I make the login a Sysop?
I think the answer is normally to do it from another sysop user, but I need
to get one sysop user first!
Thanks!
Hugh
Hello,
When a user loads the recent changes page on my wiki, the CPU
utilization on my server goes up to 99 to 100% for a single Apache
process, and that process stays alive for *exactly* 60 seconds (which
also happens to be the cutoff time for PHP scripts on my server).
This only happens *after* the recent changes page has been sent to the
browser, and the connection has been closed (I have KeepAlive off).
I have no idea what is going on, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kasimir Gabert
I have been having a recurring issue upgrading my MediaWiki install
ever since I installed it. I finally spent the afternoon trying very
hard to get through all of the (limited) documentation and figure it
out. Unfortunately, I didn't get anywhere.
My 1.4.7 wiki is at http://mapki.com/. Notice how many pages there are,
how many revs, etc. I backed up the SQL and files, copied the old wiki
to a new directory and then extracted the tarball over the old. I
renamed the LocalSettings.php, ran through the new config/install.php,
and tested. Instead of getting either no page or the correct page, I
get this: http://php5.mapki.com/. The Mainpage that shows there is a
revision that is almost a year old, and the rest of the wiki is missing
dozens of pages. I checked the raw MySQL database through the backend
and can see all of the revs in the database rows.
Can anyone suggest a solution? I've tried running the dumpBackup.php
script from the 1.4.7 install but it errored out on me. I would hate to
lose the tons of data that my users have entered.
Thank you!
Ian

Hi all,
When you go to edit a typical wikipedia page (the sandbox for instance
at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Sandbox&action=edit)
at the bottom (under the 'save page' buttons), there is a box that
says 'Insert' with a bunch of links of symbols, that when clicked will
insert the appropriate wiki text into the editing box.
How do I create and configure such a box in the wiki that I am running
(Mediawiki 1.5.6).
Thanks for the help,
Julius Lucks

nice little app. It sits in the task tray and pops up a little slideout
notice from the 'recent changes' page.

Hi all
I'm working for a management school, and we want to have groups of students
work together on a common assignment, elaborating and defining a set of
related subjects and concepts.
Students will share and elaborate their work using a wiki. This wiki is
meant to be isolated during the time of assignment (searching should only
yield results from the assignment wiki, editing and so forth should only be
possible by users of the assignment working on that wiki, etc).
The final version of their work could be fed into a common wiki and used by
other students for further assignments or general use.
Groups of students only exist during the time of an assignment and
throughout the year several assignments involving different student groups
will live and then disappear.
In this context, creating a database for each assignment/group definitely
doesn't seem to be the good solution.
I've had a look at custom namespaces and it seems i could use them to
materialize a temporary space for a group of students. I understand that
namespaces are intended to segregate different types of content that may
exist under the same title, so to some extent this is somewhat twisting the
namespace concept but they seem to be the closest fit for the
group/assignment idea.
Obviously we're looking for a solution where the customization we will be
adding will be compatible with future mediawiki releases. It seems to me
that integrating the namespace permission extension and working with the
custom namespace manager will get me where i want.
I'll need to develop a few "back office" features to manage
assignments/users (namespaces/groups) making it easy to create/remove a
namespace, associate/remove students to/from that namespace.
I'm just starting to get into the internals of mediawiki, so i hope i'm not
missing some essentials here.
We are going to start developing this group/assignment feature making it an
extension.
I wanted to know if anyone has some thoughts on the namespace direction ?
Thanks
Stéphane
Greetings,
I am new to media wiki. I just set up my wiki and read through the
documentation but I am having a hard time getting it up and running (meaning
understanding the documentation). Please forgive such a newbie question. My
site is located here:
http://www.grapefruitgirl.com/baguette
As you can see I've just installed the software and not configured it. I
want to start adding entries to my wiki. Here is my question: how does one
simply add a new wiki entry? Or do I have to do some basic configuration
before I can add entries?
Thanks for your help,
Jessica
Hello all,
I am currently running 1.6.6. This is my issue. When a page is
being watched, we are unable to edit it. You can do the show preview
and so forth, but whenever you save the changes, you get a blank
screen and the save doesn't take. If you go to edit a page that
isn't being watched by anybody, it works fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris
The upgrade should have been a simple patch level upgrade but
my editing capabilities have been taken away. Actaully,
the box does not even appear anymore on any of the pages.
What could be wrong?
Thanks,
LDB
