Which version of Apache & PHP should be used in order to have a stable
Mediawiki 1.7.1 install on Windows XP?
I have looked at the installation procedure on Mediawiki.org but somehow I
am still having Apache error code 20024 + crash because of an error in one
of PHP5 module.
So, what are you folks using??

Hi,
to distribute my wikis to my the students, which are mainly using
Windows, I decided to let the mediawiki run under Qemu which easily can
be executed under Windows and Linux.
On my PC (1,7 Ghz) the mediawiki itself was pretty slow, e.g. it took 25
seconds for the main page and 15 seconds for the Special pages to
display. After installing eAccelerator these times dropped down to 1-2
seconds. As I understand eAccelerator it precompiles the PHP code, but I
suspect that the accesses to the MySql database might also be slow. From
the description of memcached I got the impression that DB accesses are
cached by memcached, but not by eAccelarator. Would it make sense to
install both eAccelerator and memcached or just the latter one ?

I need to delete a user. I searched around and I found this old e-mail
to this list. It is about 2 years old and I'm wondering if it is still
true.
I understand that there may be undesired effects if the user being
deleted has existing edits. I found some reassignEdits.php file in the
maintenance directory. Is it safe to manually delete a user from the
database after I run this script first to re-assign their edits?
What all do I have to delete, just one record from the user table? Will
deleting this record cascade any deletes?

Not through the wiki interface, but you could delete the record from
the database. Then anyone could create a new account with the same
name, which may or may not be what you want and could cause unwanted
and confusing effects regarding attributions if there are existing
edits by the deleted user.

Hi. I was wondering what RSS readers people on this group have found to
be useful in tracking changes to pages.
I tried using yahoo's konfabulator and found an RSS news reader but for
some reason the software seemed real flakey and I couldn't move the
widget.
What I'm looking for is a nice way to get notified of changes without
getting my inbox overloaded with change notices or having to keep
refreshing the recent changes special page.

1. I don't have that in my user preferences; this is what I do have on the
editing tab that seems relevant:
- X show preview on first edit
- X show preview before edit box
... which seem to imply "edit before preview", yes?

2) User -- ability to edit pages, upload images but cannot make new pages,
move pages, etc.
3) SysOp/Bureaucrat -- granted all rights
I want to create one more access group: UserReadOnly (or something) -- so
someone must sign in to be able to read all pages, is not limited to what
they see but does not have edit/upload access. Is this possible by adding
an additional group in LocalSettings.php e.g.

the ldap plugin.
I'm having a problem in that users are creating accounts with Ids which
do not match their windows ID so if in the future we get openldap to
compile and start using the plugin they will have different Ids.
It is fairly easy for me to look at an ID on the Special:Listusers page
and tell if it is their windows ID or not. Rather than just deleting
their account I'd rather send them an e-mail.

to go directly into the database to find their e-mail addresses? If I
