hi,
I am trying to install mediawiki using the current svn code. But when
I click "please setup the wiki first" I receive the following error:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_NEW in
/var/www/htdocs/phase3/includes/MagicWord.php on line 203
how do I create a form within a mediawiki page?

I have been looking for an easy way for my wiki users to create new pages based on a standard skeleton framework. I envision them clicking a "new page" or similarly-named button, that takes them to a web form with preset fields. They fill out the fields, and then click "save" and the new page is created. (For later editing of the page, I think they'll be fine with the normal MediaWiki methods. It's just creation of standard pages that's tough.)
MoinMoin has a feature like this, if anyone's familiar with their new page creation: First you choose from a set of standard page templates listed on a page (not like MediaWiki templates, but like an OpenOffice Writer template). Click its radio button, press "continue," and then you're taken to the form with the appropriate fields for that pre-designed template. Fill out the necessary fields, and then create the new page.
Does anyone know of a similar way to do this in MediaWiki?
Thanks,
Ben
I upgraded my wiki from version 1.2.x to 1.6.7 this week without any
problems, here's what i did:
* make a backup :-)
* use Special:Export on the old wiki to create xml files including all the
revisions
* you can get a list through Special:Allpages and Special:Users (that's the
complete wiki for me)
* I installed a fresh wiki on a seperate server
* Imported the xml files through Special:Import as Sysop on the new wiki
* copied all stuff under 'upload' to 'images'
* exported and imported the sql of the old user table to keep everybody
happy
* ran the maintenance scripts to rebuild the images and index for search)
* Revert the main page to the correct version (this is they only filled page
from the new wiki)
* Copied the new wiki folder to the old server
* create a database in mysql on the new server and export and import the
full
database (all tables)
all works again, including the revisions done to all pages.
hope that helps.

(sorry if posted to the wrong list - tried the forum www.mwusers.com but with no
luck)
Hi,
I would like to be able to tag articles with one or more keywords, then in the
search page I would like to have a mode where articles can only be searched
based on those keywords (and not in a full text search mode).
Is it possible with mediawiki (or with additionnal modules) ? I looked for
information, but could not find any. I found Semantic Mediawiki
(http://wiki.ontoworld.org/index.php/Help:Semantics), but that's not really
what I need (you can add attributes to articles - a name+a value+a type, not
simple keywords - a raw text).
Thanks.
L.S.,
I'm putting MediaWiki behind a Reverse Proxy.
All works fine:
* Reading pages.
* Logging in.
BUT. Saving a page doesn't work! I've tried
this with
* Apache mod_proxy (works for saving very small pages)
* Squid (doesn't save at all)
* pound (doesn't save at all)
Has anyone had this problem before and solved it?
My config:
internet --> host at home --> via VPN link to another (internal) site
--> host at other site

I have installed a mirror of Wikipedia in my site here :
http://encyclopedia.meta99.com/
But i have some problems. I never used MediaWiki in past and i'm a newbie.
Can you help me ?
1) Some pages has strange words that don't exists in Wikipedia-
For example the "Cats" page and the "Dogs page" :
http://encyclopedia.meta99.com/wiki/Dogshttp://encyclopedia.meta99.com/wiki/Cats
has strange words in the page :

{{#if:| Binomial name
{binomial}}}

{{#if:| Type Genus
{}}}
{{#if:| Type Species
{}}}

{{#if:| {binomial2}}}
{{#if:| {trinomial2}}}

{{#if:| {binomial3}}}
{{#if:| {trinomial3}}}

{{#if:| {binomial4}}}
{{#if:| {trinomial4}}}

{{#if:| {}}}
{{#if:|
Why these terrible words ?
Exist a setting to disable the words in the output ?
2) I do not understand where is the system to change the output template/skin. I have changed some file in the directory /skins/ . For example the MonoBook.tpl but the output continue to be the same. If i change the directly the MonoBook.tpl file in the directory /skins/ why the output is identical ? A problem of cache ? I need ro change the html output to make it similar to my other pages different from MediaWiki. But i have failed to change the template. Why if i change directly MonoBook.tpl the output continue to be identical ?
Hello.
Your idea is very interesting and it's a great pity, that I can't see
the source code. (afaik, attachments aren't working in that ML...)
I realy need to see it, cause I'm working over InstaView (JS preview
for MW, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Pilaf/InstaView)
abilities extension and I've already made primitive templates
preview...
I'm also working over html2wiki js converter. At that very moment I've
managed to process tables (with captions, rows, cells and attributes)
and lists (nested dl's are still buggy...)
So if these things will be implemented, it would be possible to create
FCKeditor-based WYSIWYM editor for MW (I have almost working
prototype...), that can be an optional substitution for wikitext-based
editing.
So the idea is the folowing:
* When user edits the page he can switch between visual editing and wikitext
* For visual editing FCKeditor will be used. The source for it will be
generated by Instaview from the wikitext.
* For back-switching to wikitext html2wiki converter will be used, so
the text in DB will be saved as wikitext in any way.
So, thoughts and any feedback is appreciated!

Best regards, Shtriter Andrew.
I need to install WikiMwedia 1.7 because Brion Vibber told me that ParserFunctions almost certainly requires MediaWiki 1.7. and i need ParserFunctions support because yesterday i have installled a wikipedia mirror here : http://encyclopedia.meta99.com/ and without ParserFunctions wikipedia dump not work good ( i have strange character errors in any page without ParserFunctions ). I have not found any WikiMedia 1.7 download. Have you the download ?
Here : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=MediaWiki+1.7+DOWNLOAD&btnG=Google+Sea… i have not any file.
Pardon me... But. ... It is not possible that ALL Wikimedia sites use MediaWiki 1.7 and all Dumps are for MediaWiki 1.7 And in MediaWiki sites it is possible only to find MediaWiki 1.6.7. ...
