Help, my icons have disappeared!!!

Hi all, The icons that appear at the top of the edit box when you edit a page have disappeared on me. I go to edit any page and there is just a "naked" edit box containing the pages contents. It's nearly the end of the day so I can't track the problem down right now but I've just modified my config to get rid of the index.php from the URL as outlined in meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Eliminating_index.php_from_the_url Would this have caused the problem? Any thoughts on where I should start the debugging tomorrow morning are greatly appreciated. Regards, Andrew Lowe p.s. Latest mediawiki, Apache V2.0 etc etc

[MediaWiki-l] SVN: Exactly how does this work?

I would like to keep our version updated to 1.7 all the time; but we have lots of extensions installed and other things in the same directory as mediawiki. If I run svn up on my local directory, would it only upgrade the mediawiki files that have changed, without removing our special stuff? And no, I haven't changed any actual mediawiki files other than LocalSettings.php; so would this work? (P.S. I hope this gets to the list, there may be a duplicate copy as I'm not quite sure I'm doing this right) w/

logo only shows up on some pages

I changed my logo by setting $wgLogo in LocalSettings.php. I believe that's the right way. It only shows up on some pages. It seems like it likes to show up on editing pages, login pages--pages with forms. It doesn't show up on content pages (when you're only reading them), the main page, etc. When it doesn't show up, I don't see a broken image box or anything, it's just not there. It doesn't seem to matter what skin I use, and I've been sure to clear cache and restart httpd, etc. It's actually happening the same way in two different installations. In both cases the logos are nice and small; one of them is a png with transparency and the other is a non-transparent png. Any ideas? Side note: I'm new to MediaWiki, but I'm having a really hard time googling for help. If I include "MediaWiki" in the search string, the results seem to return every third wiki out there, rather than help about MediaWiki. Any tips there? Thanks, Matt

how to put a block of html/javascript code into main page?

Hi, I want to put a block of html/javascript code into the main wiki page that can monitor my website activity. There are many websites offer this kind of service. I just want to copy and paste the code they generated to my page. Does anyone know how to put such code in the main page? Thanks a lot Roy

how to search archives?

Is there a way to search the list archives at http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/ before asking questions which may have already been discussed? I've just been able to do it one month at a time, which is hard enough to discourage searching. Thanks, - Mitch Gart

How to use 'clickpic' template?

I've tried to use the 'clickpic' template described in http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:CharlesC/Template_for_navigational_i mages_on_Mediawiki_websites Does anybody have a working example of how to do it? I have done it 2 different ways and neither quite works. Method #1: page containing the link has {{clickpic|Main_Page|image:foo.jpg}} and template:clickpic has <span class="plainlinks">[{{SERVER}}{{localurl:{{{1}}}}} {{{2}}}]</span> In this method, the picture doesn't show up on the page. Instead the text "image"foo.jpg" shows up. When you click the link, you go to the target page correctly. Method #2 same as above except page containing the link has {{clickpic|Main_Page|[[image:foo.jpg]]}} with the extra square brackets. This time the image shows up correctly, but when you click the image it doesn't go to the right place. It goes to the page with info about foo.gif. Does anybody know how to get this working?
