If you're looking for something more advanced, then you can hide
blocks of text using JavaScript:
http://jrandomhacker.info/MediaWiki:Monobook.js#Dynamic_Navigation_Bars
Also, I use <noinclude> tags in some pages, where I don't want to use
<!-- comment --> tags everywhere. For example, I comment my sidebar
page with noinclude:
https://jrandomhacker.info/MediaWiki:Sidebar
So, we ran the importUseModWiki php script to import an old wiki for
work that
used UseModWiki and the results are fine, but the old pages never show up on
searches? I've looked at the tables and I'm not sure what needs to be
changed...
Anybody know or can guess what's going on? We have to keep the old
UseModWiki running just so the guys can use search... argh!

With MediaWiki installed in the root of the webserver, whenever a
visitors enters http://server, he/she is automatically redirected to
http://server/index.php/Main_Page, and "Main_Page" is displayed.
Is it possible to configure Mediawiki, so that when a visitor enters
http://server, he sees MainPage, but in the address bar, he still sees
http://server (no, no frames etc., just display "Main_Page" when someone
enters http://server)?

Thank you Angela! It works :-) I had to add the interwiki link to the
MySQL database manually.

Now this is the next funny question ... I know how it works with html
... but on the user page ...
How to get a skype button on my user page without problems (I mean one
that by clicking on it starts a call)?
The code I have on my online-cv is:
<a href="CALLTO://sabinecretella"><img src="http://goodies.skype.com/graphics/skypeme_btn_small_red.gif" border="0"></a>
The image can be stored anyway, also on the wiki or of course it can be substituted by any image.
But: how can I have that callto:// command work? It seems as if Mediawiki does not "understand" it. It would generally be a nice feature to see - also for the Wikimedia projects.
Did someone already resolve this?
Thanks!
Sabine

Hi, I already saw some wikis having it ... well I need it for one of my
wikis running on version 1.5.7
I would like to see the Google ads on the right side of the screen - I
only found the Google search box how-to ... but nothing for that
particular case.
Can someone help me? Maybe the code to be added with a description where
to add it is already there. (can be in English, German, Italian)
Thank you!!!!
Best, Sabine

I want to be able to insert non-displaying (i.e., comment) text
in a page. For example, a mechanically-generated (eg, index or
transcluded template) page might have:
This is a mechanically-generated page. Do NOT edit it.
For more information, see RichMorinBot.
Alternatively, a "report" page might contain:
The following transclusion brings in the Yada Yada report.
One way of doing this is:
<b _='this is a comment'></b>
or perhaps
<b _=' The following transclusion brings in the Yada Yada report.
'></b>
but this seems a bit awkward. Are there any better ways?
