Bad Main Page after upgrade test

I am attempting a trial update from 1.5.7 to 1.6.2 and after I do so I can no longer access the Main Page. It keeps coming up with a bad title but does not show any history etc. Should I run any maintenance scripts or anything else before I update??? Laurie

Can't see mediawiki site; see folder content listing instead.

Trying to set up a local mediawiki server on my Mac (osx 10.4.4). Installed mediawiki version 1.6.2 to Library/WebServer/Documents/mediawiki/ Trying to follow this portion of the install instructions with no luck: "Hop into your browser and surf into the wiki directory. It'll direct you into the config script." So I go to http://127.0.0.1/mediawiki/ in my browser, but rather than being presented with a web page (which I assume would guide me through setup), I simply see the file listing of that folder. E.g: AdminSettings.sample COPYING FAQ etc. Web sharing is on - for example, if I go to http://127.0.0.1/ I see my Apache server's default web page. Any ideas?

Customize Sidebar

I use MediaWiki 1.6.2. Is there any way to customize the Sidebar in LocalSettings.php (like in 1.4)? I'm working with two languages (two different LocalSettings.php with $wgUseDatabaseMessages = false;) and I want for each LocalSettings a different Sidebar. Changes in MediaWiki:Sidebar doesn't work.

Does anyone here know how to create a conditional statement in version 1.5.8 that I could use in a template? if the stated variable is not defined WHAT I WANT IS TO HAVE A TABLE ROW NOT APPEAR IF A STATED VARIABLE IS NOT DEFINED. For EXAMPLE: "if" {{{lubrication}}} !null (is something) "then" <TR> <td><strong>[[Lubrication]]:</strong></TD> <TD>{{{lubrication}}}</TD> </TR> "else" don't show the table row at all. Leave that alone and continue to the next conditional statement. Authenticating to wiki using existing cookie

Hi all, I asked this question a few months back and I am hoping someone has come across a way to do it. Basically, my wiki will sit at the URL wiki.domain.com. My users come to www.domain.com <http://www.domain.com/> and log in, and I store a persisten cookie for domain.com that contains their domain username. Since this is true, is there a way to have it so that when a user clicks on the link to the wiki from www.domain.com <http://www.domain.com/> , mediawiki will check the cookie, extract the username and authenticate the user to the wiki using that same username? (creating appropriate tables in the mediawiki db, etc). Note: the wiki is on a separate machine from the main domain, so I can't use REMOTE_USER variable. [ Sending this again, as the Gmane post seems to have failed ] Hello everyone, I work for Twinfield, a company in the Netherlands who develops and hosts ( application service provider ) online accounting software. We've started ( and enjoy ) using MediaWiki for internal documentation, and we're now also considering to use it for external documentation, like manuals, FAQs, HOWTOs, API documentation, etc. We would need some kind of single sign on for that external Wiki and we would need "advanced" features such as language namespaces. I haven't discussed this with my boss yet, but for this external Wiki installation, I think it's much more efficient if someone with lots of MediaWiki experience sets it up. So if you are or know someone/some company with lots of functional and technical knowledge of MediaWiki and are interested to share it with us for money and set up the external Wiki then please contact me by e-mail. Determining Version of Mediawiki

Hi folks, I wonder how to find out the version of an installed and used mediawiki. I did not find anything in the interface and did not want to search through the database. Any hint is appreciated. Dirk

template table - "if" variable definition exists "then" display row "else" do nothing

I cannot upgrate to MW 1.6 due to MySQL version on my server. Thus, I cannot use the Template:Qif I would like however, to create templates with tables in them that only display the table row if the variable in them is defined. Something like: {{qif|test={{{LxWxH |}}}|then=<tr><th style="text-align:right;">Dimensions</th><td>{{{LxWxH}}}</td></tr>}} in this example the row: <tr><th style="text-align:right;"> Dimensions </th><td>{{{LxWxH}}}</td></tr> would only display if the variable "LxWxH" was defined Can't use qif tho. Any ideas on how to do this in version 1.5.8? Thanks, Erik
