Hi!
I would like to create a Mediawiki tag that allows me to run PHP code
within an article. I've seen an extension that allows execution of
arbitrary code, but that seems too dangerous to me.
It should be from a specific file only, e.g. "/somefolder/somestuff.php"
which gets called via {{somestuff|foo}} , being "foo" a value which is
used by a function in somestuff.php
I'm sure this would allow many interesting modifications, customizations
and enhancements for MediaWiki.
Can this be done with an extension? How?
Cheers to all!
Hi,
Please change the test for "MediaWiki:Nonefound" in the default
installation from:
'''Note''': unsuccessful searches are often caused by searching for
common words like "have" and "from", which are not indexed, or by
specifying more than one search term (only pages containing all of the
search terms will appear in the result).

'''Note''': unsuccessful searches are often caused by searching for
words shorter then 4 characters, or common words like "have" and "from",
which are not indexed, or by specifying more than one search term (only

I just spend quite some time figuring out why a search on "IP" did not
match a page, while I was sure I had a page on "IP Address ranges".
Obviously, this is a MySQL-specific problem (which only indexes words of
4 chars and up [1]), but I have the impression I'm not the only one who
encountered this "feature" of MySQL.
Alternatively, it is very well possible to make a workaround, and
recognize the fact that search with a short word is performed by MySQL,
but I dislike such a feature, so I propose a generic warning instead,
and just hope that MySQL makes it easier to change the min-word-length
on a per-table (or per-column or per-database) rather then a per-server
basis.

"Some words are ignored in full-text searches:
Any word that is too short is ignored. The default minimum length of
words that are found by full-text searches is four characters. [...]"
PS: I put the misleading "(in caps)" in the subject because I suspected
this was a case-related bug (somehow all my short words were all caps
;-) ); perhaps people will earlier spot this mail when they Google for
this quirck.
Moin,
"MediaWiki 1.6 is not released yet, even though MediaWiki 1.6alpha is
currently running on all Wikimedia sites (since August 2005)".
Ouch, so 1.6 is in Alpha stage for now about 7 months. I am afraid I have
to ask the questin again:
* Is there a roadmap/release schedule telling us when people running other
wikis can enjoy the features of 1.6, too?
I would like to upgrade a few wikis, but without a stable release I am
unable to do so - running alpha code on a production wiki isn't such a
good idea if you don't have the great network admins from Wikipedia in
the background :)
Thanx for your time,
Tels

I've got some issues with multiple wikis timing out and forcing
multiple logins throughout the day. They're all hosted on the same
machine in different subdirectories (for various reasons).
I do recall that there is some functionality to tweak how these wikis
create their cookies.. in theory they could all share the same one.
I'm not sure where to begin looking for the answers so I thought I'd
ask.
I'm confused about how the Special:Statistics page is being calculated. My
wiki has nearly 5,000 total pages, many of them user-contributed. Here's
what Special:Statistics displays:
There are 4,786 total pages in the database. This includes "talk"
pages, pages about WRG, minimal "stub" pages, redirects, and others that
probably don't qualify as content pages. Excluding those, there are 26 pages
that are probably legitimate content pages.
Now I know that there are far more than 26 legitimate pages! I think the
problem here is that most of the user-contributed content pages have been
placed in custom-defined namespaces. This was done to allow 'advanced'
searches on different subject areas, which is not possible if everything is
lumped into the main namespace. Is there any way to get the calculation of
'good' articles to include these custom namespaces?
I am concerned about this under-reporting issue not only because anyone
checking my Statistics page will get an incomplete picture of my wiki, but
also because this calculation is used to rank the largest wikis at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_wikis, and if based on
incomplete information, this list is not accurate.
Thank you!

Seriously. Come help out with the [[Meta:MetaProject to Overhaul Meta]].
I appear to be the only one tackling the technical documents.

Thank you for the heads up on the release Brion. We're about to do a
1.4.12 to 1.5.8 upgrade, so it's nice to be aware of this imminent
release.
Could you possibly give a rough idea of the issues (if any) we might run
into going from a 1.5.8 to 1.6.0 upgrade? This might influence our
decision to delay our 1.5.8 upgrade and go direct to 1.6.0. The current
Upgrading help page only addresses 1.5.x and below.
Thanks,
-Jeff

Actually, Evan Prodromou talked me into this schedule this weekend, I
just
forgot to tell anyone. :)
