On MW 1.5.6 .... in in the source of LogPage.php there's a variable called
updateRecentChanges ( = true)
If I change that to false will it stop blocks/deletes/protects from showing
up in the Recent Changes? As an admin/sysop doing maintenance etc, I don't
think I need my users to see that stuff
Just asking if I can change the variable there, or if maybe I should change
it in LocalSettings.php
thanks

Hi,
Is there an easy way to force the use of a users "real name", instead of
their username in the history pages. The credit blocks seem to use the
real name if it's set.
We'd like to hide usernames completely...
thanks
Andrew
Anybody know how to put an e-mail address in a wiki running MediaWiki
software so that when the user clicks on it, the e-mail address will open up
the e-mail client?
e.g. on the following site I have an e-mail address but it is just shown as
text, so the user has to cut/paste into their e-mail client (e.g. Outlook).
Yuk
a.. http://treekee.com/tervuren/en/wiki/Police
On the page you will see the address, politie(a)tervuren.be (note, don't reply
with your answer to this address!! Post it here.).
I'm running MediaWiki version 1.6.8 on a hosted UNIX server (the older version is because the server only runs PHP version 4.something). I want to use FileCache, but I don't think it's working--when I forced a refresh as a non-logged-in user, the counter still advanced (that's before I turned off the hit-counter). I can't find anything on this.
Here are the relevant lines from my LocalSettings.php file. I'm assuming that the first 3 lines actually are unrelated to the FileCache issue, right? In this version, should the last line (re UseGzip) be set to true?
## Shared memory settings
$wgMainCacheType = CACHE_NONE;
$wgMemCachedServers = array();
$wgUseFileCache = true;
$wgFileCacheDirectory = "/tmp/cwzwikicache";
$wgShowIPinHeader = false;
$wgUseGzip = false;

I'm sure Heinz knows this, but it hasn't been stated:

This merely takes the tagged text and sends it out. Contrary to
claims, it does not do any "converting" at all!
DO NOT do this on a site that does not have careful access control! A
bad boy (or girl) can use your site to refer to viruses and all
manner of other malware stuff.
If you do not allow anonymous postings, and you do not allow end-user
account creation, and you trust all the users you create accounts
for, it can still cause trouble inadvertently.
On the other hand, you can use it to embed QuickTime movies and a lot
of neat stuff, as well.
Use with care!

Hello,
for some pages on my mediawiki, I need to allow page titles
with double slash.
The good thing is that I don't need subpages.
Where should I hack anything so that the double slash in page
title are not reduced to only one slash?
Thank you for your help
François

Friends,
I have a mediawiki server running on my home computer, which has been
perfectly fine for the past month. All of a sudden, I started getting the
following error whenever I try to upload a file:
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "Title::isDeleted". MySQL returned error "1146: Table '
wikidb.mw_filearchive' doesn't exist (localhost)".
For some reason, updating text (editing a page) receives this:
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "LinksUpdate::getExistingInterlangs". MySQL returned
error "1146: Table 'wikidb.mw_langlinks' doesn't exist (localhost)".
only after that error, if I check the page, the update actually did go
through. I also, after a few retries, got one picture uploaded (even though
I got the same error). It seems that the SQL server is screwing up and
throwing errors around, but somehow manages to work if the change is small
enough to occur quickly. I've tried recompiling mediawiki and mysql and
neither have helped. Also, using the mysql cli, "SELECT * FROM
mw_filearchive" told me the same thing--that it doesn't exist.
Help!

I am getting an error in my installation of mediawiki, on a Linux box:
"Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct
installation of latex, dvips, gs, and convert): \sqrt{1-e^2}"
However, I logged the command, and run it from the command-line:
./math/texvc '/home/wiki/public_html/MediaWiki/images/tmp' '/home/
wiki/public_html/MediaWiki/images/tmp' '\sqrt{1-e^2}' 'utf-8'
And it works fine, creating the temporary file, fine. There are tons
of temporary files in the images/tmp directory, so it's not a(n)
(obvious) permissions problem.
When I create a php script:
--- begin script ---
$cmd = "./math/texvc '/home/sovereig/public_html/MediaWiki/images/
tmp' '/home/sovereig/public_html/MediaWiki/images/tmp' '\sqrt{1-e^2}'
'utf-8'";
$ret = system($cmd . " 2>&1");
$ret = substr($ret, 1, strlen($ret)-2);
print "<img src='images/tmp/$ret.png'>";
--- end script ---
I capture the following output from the command:
-- begin output --
kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt fmtutil: format directory
`/.texmf-var/web2c' does not exist.
-- end output --
(Note: /.texmf-var/web2c does not exist; ~/.texmf-var/web2c
*does* ... how do I change that?)
It will come up with the same .png file-name that the command line
created, but it won't create it.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening
and how to fix it?
Incidentally, I installed tetex with ./configure --prefix=/home/wiki/
local --datadir=/home/wiki/local .
As well, as a result of using this non-standard path, I added the
following into my LocalSettings.php:
putenv('PATH=/home/wiki/local/bin'. PATH_SEPARATOR . getenv
('PATH'));
I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide.
Thank you,
Brian
I have a request by my manager to have one of our external applications
add a category to our Wiki whenever a category is added in the external
application.
Does anyone know if something like this has been attempted before - or,
if not, is there any detailed documentation on the database functions?
I'm finding bits and pieces of information scattered about, but was
wondering if there was a comprehensive guide.
Thanks,
Jen
