Hello, all.
I have recently set up MediaWiki to use as an information repository.
I am interested in using the Categories page as a table of contents.
However, to do this effectively, I would like to do two things.
1) Have Special:Categories show a hierarchal view of categories, witih
top level categories and sub-categories indented underneath.
2) I would like to make a page that lists all entries organized by
category, and paginated. So much like special:categories but with
actual article listings in it.
Anyway, are these things possible / will they be, and if so can
someone do an "idiot's guide to implementing" them?
Thank you in advance. =)

Hi, I've added this to localsettings:
# Invitation-only closed shop type of system
$wgWhitelistEdit = true;
$wgWhitelistRead = array ( ":Main_Page", "Posebno:Userlogin" );
$wgWhitelistAccount = array ( "user" => 0, "sysop" => 1, "developer" =>
1 );
But still anyone can read the pages, even if not logged in.
This happens only on 1.4-beta0
If this doesn't seem to be the right place for such bugs I should go to
where, http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/ ???

First, what do you mean by this? Two possibilities I can think of:
* Store uploaded files in a blob field in a database table, instead of
as files
* Scan a directory tree full of uploaded files to reconstruct the
'image' and 'oldimage' table entries.
The answer to either is that it could be done, if someone (perhaps you)
were to write the necessary code. But there is no such code currently.

Hello,
I was wondering if there is away to move the upload directory into the
database or if anyone has tried this with some information?
Thanks in advance
Jared
I copied MediaWiki 1.3.8 files over to my web-accessible dir. I created a
MySQL database and user. I ran the Config\index.php page and it reported
back with no errors. I looked at the new database and it is populated with
tables from the config script. Everything looked good at that point. Then
I browsed to the top-level page of the wiki, and got this error:
Warning: Failed opening
'/tmp/tpl_0_7_0_7d90f7cef16f0e547fab72ff18d4b4a1.php' for inclusion
(include_path='.:/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/mediawiki:/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/mediawiki/includes:/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/mediawiki/languages')
in
/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/mediawiki/PHPTAL-NP-0.7.0/libs/PHPTAL/Template.php
on line 430
[pear_error: message="Template function

/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/mediawiki/templates/xhtml_slim.pt"
code=0 mode=return level=notice prefix="" info=""]
The file that it complains about is in fact present at
"/tmp/tpl_0_7_0_7d90f7cef16f0e547fab72ff18d4b4a1.php". And I'm not sure
how MediaWiki works, but this file must have been created by running the
PHPs since I didn't put it there. This leads me to believe that the PHP
should have permissions to read from that file. So what's wrong here?
I apologize if I am asking something that has come up before. I tried to
find an existing answer to this, since I am not doing anything very unusual
and it seems like it must be something that lots of people would run
into. But unfortunately I couldn't find anything on it.

Hi:
I'm new to wikimedia and I'm configuring a wiki devoted to sharing
experiences in international cooperation.
I wonder if there's a way of managing groups of users in order to create
separate working spaces for different groups. I'm aware that the group
manangement interface will not be included until version 1.5, but I
still would like to know if there's a way of separating groups of users.

Hello
I m still trying to rebuild my french wikipedia for local use and i have pbs
while trying to rebuild the "brokenlinks" and "categorylinks" tables, using
the php script in the maintenance directory of mediawiki-1.3.8:
1/ It seems to be broken, and forget many good or broken links
eg in page Avignon in the fr.wikipedia.org it finds only 3 good links
those who are located at the bottom of the page !!!
but on another page it behaves differently !
2/ It fails to complete with a fatal error. (and very slowly, i estimate
its need 3 hours to complete, whereas wiki2static does the same
and many other things in less than 10 min !!!)
$ php refreshLinks.php wikidb
50
..../....
7150
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted
(tried to allocate 224 bytes)
in /Big/Wikipedia/mediawiki-1.3.8/includes/Parser.php on line 787
hmm, that's 64M for Php request, i think it should be enough ;)
Then i tried to restart from here , having modfied the .inc to have
reporting interval of 1 instead of 50, to find the offending article.
php refreshLinks.php 7150
it starts from 1 !!!!
So i modfy the .inc to start at 7150 and it goes .... until a crash later:
17510
17511
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted
(tried to allocate 17833 bytes)
in /Big/Wikipedia/mediawiki-1.3.8/includes/MagicWord.php on line 174
It looks like a memory "leak" in the script ?
So here are my questions :
1/ what can i do ?
2/ Is there a documentation about the rebuilding of a wikipedia from
the downloaded cur database ? (if so i suggest to include it in the mediawiki.tgz&&rpm)
Regards
Alain
Hello
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted
(tried to allocate 224 bytes)
in /Big/Wikipedia/mediawiki-1.3.8/includes/Parser.php on line 787
How much memory should i allocate to php ???
the doc on mediawiki.org explains that for 8M stack, not 64M,
and doesnt give any clue.
i think 64MB is enough to find a link in a less than 200 kB page ?
The script probably have memory leaks, because the error
is not bound to a big page, but occurs after more or less 10 000 pages.
The data base is 100 000 article, and i dont want to allocate 640 MB to php !
Thanks you for any help for debbugging that.
Regards
Alain
Since upgrading to 1.4beta2 earlier this evening, all new articles added
to the wiki appear to be linking to Ursine:Help in Special:Wanted
Pages. The problem with this is none of the pages link Ursine:Help at
all! What's going on here?
