first of all, thanks for the offer. I will start browsing (and
reading!) through the documentation first and see if I can find my way
through it.
For now, thansk for the hint regarding the search engine, that gives
me a starting point. But than again, I'm sure I'll come back on this
;))

I would highly recommend dropping the full text search
that is built
into MySQL and looking for a better search engine. This would allow
you to customize your searches, giving you logical operators, etc,
etc. There is lots of documentation on this at MediaWiki, but if you
are getting stuck then I would be happy to help. For the most part,
integration with external search engines in MediaWiki is easy, but
getting them set up in the first place can be a bit of a pain.
