So, just to be clear, I am developing and testing at

the Wiki publicly available from my hosting service. I want to be able
to do all my configuration, particularly with styles and designs, at
home, and then simply upload all the files to the hosting service when
done. This is how I develop all my web sites, and I can't imagine that
doing it this way with WikiMedia should be prohibitively difficult.
Feel free then. Remember, the configuration file is code. There are any number
of ways you can set different configurations based on location, such as:
* Depend on hostname
* Use an environment variable
* Use another local file which contains the specific information
* Look in $_SERVER yourself for all the exciting variables it contains
Also remember that URL paths are saved into cache. If you're syncing your
databases as well as your files, make sure that either:
1) You clear the objectcache table
2) You're using a different caching system such as memcached.
