While its true that Winbloze is what it is (I had to backtrack from
Apache 2 to 1.3 due to constant crashes experienced even now by the
Apache 2 port), this particular setup was caused by my own (l)user error.
In httpd.conf I mistyped the server name. I'm told that the redirector
uses this under certain circumstances to pass the user to the proper
page (on a save, the redirector passes the user back to the article
after the save operation). The strange thing from my point of view was
that the behavior didn't seem all that consistent and was matched to a
seemingly unrelated problem (IE 6 would not display the Image: page
after an upload whereas a Nutscrape browser would).
So, the answer is, if edit/save comes back with timeouts or page not
found, look to the redirector.

This seems to be a common issue within a windows

My first crack at mediawiki was using a WAMP setup (not my idea) and I was
always plagued with issues like this.
Check your apache error.log and then google what you see there, that's a
good start.
Check your php error logs as well. In my experience there were some issues
with php that never quite got resolved, despite going through hundreds of
bug reports and attempting several fixes.
How did I solve the problem? I switched to Linux and I've been running an
error free server ever since.

Added note, in an IE browser, the error is:

Folks,
When I save an edit to a page (or create a new page), the wiki (1.7.1,
php5, apache 1.3.37, Windows 2000 Pro) I get a server timed out error.
However, the page actually saves and can be viewed on a reload.
Thoughts?
