The problem here is that your code is wrong.
Style (style="") is used to add the style code, what you need to use is
class (class="").
MediaWiki:monobook.css contains:
.pastoral {
color:"#00ff00" !important;
}
Code:
<div class="pastoral">pastoral</div>

Edit Mediawiki:Monobook.css. Use Firefox/Mozilla's DOM Inspector for a
guide.
Not trying to hijack, but I still cannot for the life of me get the
MediaWiki:monobook.css to do anything. I've been hacking things by
hand instead of via this method, which I don't want to do anymore.
Is there a guide somewhere?
MediaWiki:monobook.css contains:
pastoral {
color:"#00ff00" !important;
}
<div style="pastoral">pastoral</div>
purging the page or cache, changes nothing. What am I doing wrong?
