Thanks. Unfortunately, that is all way over my head!!! For one thing,
it looks as if your solution is for a setup where the wiki is in a sub
folder of the main domain rather than the top level of the domain. And
the comment below, about how changing the base URL hint didn't work was
actually by me - that's why I joined this list, because the "talk" page
wasn't giving me the answers I needed.
I really hope I can get this working, as it is the only thing holding
up making my site go live! Thanks again to anyone who can clear up the
confusion!
Cheers,

I have been able to get my wiki up and configured
quite easily,
although modifying the navigation box took some figuring out.
However, the one last thing I want to do is to figure out how to
modify the URLs using Apache rewrite rules. I don't have access to
httpd.conf on my hosted site, just .htaccess files. But when I tried
the hint in <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Rewrite_rules> nothing
happened. Moreover, I want to also change the base URL, as I use URL
forwarding on my site. Any help would be appreciated! Please see
below for more details.
If you mix information from sections
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:
Rewrite_rules#Putting_All_Toghether and
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:
Rewrite_rules#How_to_change_base_URL.3F you will make it.
Please let us know if you get this working.
