Dear all,
I suggest we have an announcement mailing list.
I second others who have suggested against another Announcement list.
I sometimes see certain mails flooding too mailing list, and it really
spams the inbox.
Yes, I do face this problem. Often, nowadays, with the mails sent from A2K
itself :(
If we have an announcement list, we can suggest everyone to subscribe to
the list who is interested in announcement from
Indian communities like the
Chapter , the A2K and various other cities and languages communities.
Speaking for A2K, even if we have an Announcement list, we would still
like to send mails to all the mailing lists. I do understand that this
spams the inbox of people like you and I, who are subscribed to multiple
lists. However, I feel sending information to all the India mailing lists
is an essential part of being transparent, participatory and accountable to
the Indian Wikimedia community. Thus, I would suggest that Chapter and A2K
should not desist from proactive disclosure of information pertaining to
the work we do.
Hello Vishnu, I don't personally indicate A2K here, I did specify that this
is applicable for generally; i.e. also for the Chapter and other
communities. I also second Rahmanuddin Shaik for adding something like
Announcement: so that people are aware that this is just an announcement,
which indirectly means that your comments. We should also encourage people
to post their comments on some other place like Meta Wiki, Wikipedia, or
WMIN Wiki. This will also keep record of for all communication, and it will
also keep our inbox clean. I have seen recently that many mails from the
Wikimedia India mailing list reach spam list instead of inbox, and that's
really sad. We end up missing various mails.
I'll also echo what Arun and all have expressed here. I'm really happy and
thankful that everyone came up here with your opinion :)
Regards,
Karthik.
Best regards,
Vishnu
