Hello Wikimedians!
What is the procedure to become a member of Wikimedia India?
I have downloaded the form and filled it. Where and to whom shall I send the form?
Is it okay if I send a scanned copy to Sowyman and make the payment online or is it mandatory to send it in physical?
Warm Regards, Jayantilal.
Jayantilal, The payment can be made online, however a.physical copy of the form must reach the Chapter office. Please also Send a copy of your proof of ID.

Hello Srikant! I hope you live in 21st century. Downloading the form, then taking a printout and filling it manually, then going to stationery shop to buy an envelope and then going to post office to stand in the long que in this hot summer just to snail-mail a piece of paper is such a head ache for a old man like me.
Apart from travelling to post-office, I have to spend another Rs. 40 to send it by registered post so that it reaches fast & I have proof. If I send it by ordinary post (like I did last time) I do not have any proof & even if you receive the form you can claim that you did not receive my form as there is no witness with me through which I can prove that I have sent the form.
I had sent Rs. 100 DD twice (March 2012 & April 2013) along with my form and I'm not a member yet. :( Even my money is lost.
Why can't you make the system paperless?
What's the matter in scanning and sending the form?
Why don't you make an eform for all the members?
Is this a trick to keep away the new members from the chapter?
Sent from cellphone while standing in the long que at post office, pardon the sender. -Jayantilal

This is a Karnataka State requirement. Kindly petition the government if you want a change. We are only following advice from our consultant.

Jayantilal, I do live in the 21st century, so does everyone else, I hope you are aware of that.
The paper form requirement is a requirement because the Registrar of Societies Karnataka requires a physical copy of the applicant's signature. This is why we cannot accept scanned forms. This is no trick.
If your DD was sent to the right address in 2012/2013, I'm sure it must have been processed, that's how I registered /renewed myself. As I stated earlier, you ca ALSO do a NEFT transfer, that is paperless you know.
You can do this from the comfort of your home, no need to actually go to the post office, you can put the envelope in a post box, it still reaches. P.S: Since we're anyway trolling, do we still have long queues at post offices these days?

As Sowyman has retired, who is responsible for approving the membership? How long would it take to approve from the day you receive the form?
