Hi all, I know that sometime back unified login happened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Unified_login This is what I was doing :-
a. Was in EN:WP and logged in - looked at the entries.
b. Went to hindi wikipedia and tried to edit an article. I was not logged in.
c. Thought perhaps I'm not chosen Unified login so went to http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MergeAccount, says you are unified.
d. Did a shift-F5 and refreshed the page without the cache, for some reason the login didn't happen.
Any pointers as to what could be the issue ? This is on Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3 on an Ubuntu 10.04 box although do not think its something to do with either the browser or the distribution.
AFAIK, Unified login just gives the option of logging in with the same username and password, without creating a new one for each wiki project. You still need to login manually with that unified user name and password combination.

Unified Login or SUL (Single User Login) is a mechanism which allows users to use a single global login on most of the Wikimedia Foundation's projects. It allows to maintain a consistent identity across all linked projects, and no you necessarily don't have to login manually to each Wiki.
You first need to Merge your account by visiting [[Special:MergeAccount]] to perform Login Unification. if your particular wiki is not allowing access through SUL and you have to login Manually each time, for example Strategy Wiki does that from time to time, you might need to file a bug. Check with other users on your wiki if this is a consistent issue, and post on VP.

Hi Theo10011/Salmaan, Perhaps I was not explicit before, my account is already merged about a month or a little more back, still to reconfirm had gone yesterday and saw it gave a thumbs up again.
In fact, was little disappointed with [Special:MergeAccount] it didn't remember that I had come and merged before. Anyways , tried to access it and again was *not* automatically logged in.
Filed a bug on the bugzilla as well, will inform the list if, when, as I get the info.

Hoi, When you are new to a Wikimedia project, you have to log in for a first time and accept cookies for that site. When you do, the user you just created will be included into your SUL profile. When it did not, you can add a new profile manually into your SUL profile. When your new profile is included, you will benefit from not having to log in when you move to another wiki. Thanks, GerardM

What's SUL (the UL part would be perhaps Unified Login what does the S stand for ?)
I tried again but was not able to log in, apparently I have another password in Hindi. While I don't recall putting another one in but still go through the motions.
This raises another question, can people have different passwords (while having the same username) in all the wikimedia sites ?
From both an admin perspective as well as an editor perspective its a hassle .
comments, thoughts please........
Thanks, GerardM

Ok tried the above approach, didn't work. I was able to login with a temporary password and fixed it.
Then tried logging to the Special Merge Account in another tab/window to check whether my user profile has been integrated into the SUL. It has not, how can I manually add the new profile in my SUL (Single User Login) profile ? Instructions please.
When your new profile is included, you will benefit from not having to log in when you move to another wiki. Thanks, GerardM
