Hello everyone!
Been quite a long time since any discussion on setting up the Wikimedia India Chapter has taken place. We really need to put this on the fast track. What is the current status?
Regards Deepu
In hibernation as far as I know. :(

About time we woke up then. What is the next step that we need to take?
IIRC, Anirudh had spoken to some NGO ( was it CEE?) a while ago, and they were ready to sponsor the chapter. Is that right? Any idea if they might still be interested?

Hello everyone, I am new to this mailing list. Let me introduce myself, my name is Samvit and i am a student of Chartered Accountancy. Wikipedia is the first place that i go to when i need information on something, and it has saved me quite a few times. It would be really helpful if someone could give an update on the steps that have been taken so far towards setting up the Indian chapter. The website says that the last update was 11/2007. Who are the most active people with respect to setting it up? I am really looking forward to contributing my time and energy towards the cause of wikimedia, it would be great if we could get the chapter up and running soon.
Warm Regards, Samvit Durga

AFIK, there were two different efforts in parallel, one in Ahmedabad and the other in Bangalore, to setup the chapter. But, both have become silent now. Before even reaching out to the sponsor, could we please arrive at a consensus on the membership, structure, and location based on some reasonable criteria?

All,
We would like to let you all know that Jimmy wales and two other wikimedia foundation members will be in Thiruvananthapuram as a part of fsfs conferencehttp://www.fsfs.in/content/registration-fsfs-conference-open-now. The fsfs and space-kerala organizers has provided an opportunity for malayalam wikipedians to participate, conduct a session/panel discussion and meet Jimmy soon after. We would like to welcome if anyone is interested in joining. We may even plan an indian wiki meet there, if there is enough participation from other wikipedias.
Thanks, Jyothis.
