Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to circle back on the progress for the Indian version of the
WIkipedia for Schools[1]. User:BevMo, who is putting together the English
Wikipedia for Schools said they can create a customized version of the 2011
release for India!
All we need is a list of the ~200-300 articles and the permalinks you would
like to add which are specific to India. Would you all like to progress
with this option? It seems like it could be very valuable and hopefully
would not require too much additional work, as I know there is a list on
User:AshLin's page with articles already[2].
I'd love and welcome your thoughts!
Best,
Jessie

Heya all,
I was busy doing some [random, varied] editing to several road based
articles on the English Wikipedia when I came across this handy tool called
Find Link.
This tool lets you search for a given string across all articles in the
project and then link it to the article of the string.
An example is:
I searched for Dual Carriageway, it gave me Leach Highway. A simple click
opens up the Edit Page, with the change ALREADY IMPLEMENTED. A short edit
summary is also prepared, all you need to do is click on Save.
This tool is quite handy, in many cases.

Apart from this, there is another tool, I guess many are aware of this:
Called Advisor.
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cameltrader/Advisor.js/Description
This handy tool helps ease out minor corrections, and remove whitespaces,
make heading styles uniform across the article.
And last:
Wikipedia Cleaner
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:CLEANER
It helps remove redundant links, and link pages to direct articles in case
of disambiguation pages.
I've been using the last two for over a year and also been on a mission to
try and localise Wikipedia Cleaner to Hindi.
I came across the first one today.
I hope this comes in Handy to you guys, and helps keep the project clean.

Hi Folks

I look forward to as many of you as can make it.
Many thanks.

Heya guys,
Yesterday, I made a series of successive edits on a certain article,
removing some unwanted information, and cleaning up the article.
Several hours later, I opened up the article from a mobile phone.
I first opened it on an Android based phone, and later on with an entry
level phone with Opera Mini.
In both cases, the last edit made by me wasn't reflected in the page.
However, when I clicked on view on Regular Wikipedia, in both cases, it
showed it up to date as I would see it on my PC.
Is this a regular occurrence or is it a once in a blue moon issue?
Please let me know.

Hoi,
I have been approached by kaldari and neilk_ to promote the localisation of
the UploadWizard. The reason for this that it is likely that next week this
software will replace the current Upload functionality. These two WMF
developers have been working long and hard to improve the upload usability
of uploading pictures into MediaWiki and, I am really impressed with their
work.
However, the usability is marred when the software is not localised. Next to
great software this is the biggest usability improvement possible. My
obvious question, can you help. There is already one language ready for use,
I hope many will follow.
Thanks,
GerardM

Hi All
I'm writing to inform you that the selection process for 2 of the 4 potential new team members of the India Programs team has started. These have been posted on Office as well as LinkedIn. They can be seen at the at the following locations:
Wiki
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/RFP/Consultant,_Participation_-_India_P…http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/RFP/Consultant,_Indic_Initiatives_-_Ind…
LinkedIn
http://www.linkedin.com/jobs?viewJob=&jobId=1592308http://www.linkedin.com/jobs?viewJob=&jobId=1592351
Can I request a few things.
a) India Programs is extremely keen on having existing Wikimedians on board in the team. I therefore invite and urge anyone from the existing community to respond to either / both of these. As you will make out from the wordings, there is a clear preference for those who are already involved in the community.
b) Please do forward this mail to anyone you know who you think might be interested. While they may not be from the existing community, you are best placed to know your who would fit into the movement and who might be interested.
c) Please do broadcast these links on any other mailing lists, bulletin boards, various social networks (twitter, facebook, etc.), etc. so that we can reach more potential candidates / remind potential candidates.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for any clarifications.
Many thanks.
