Hi all,
I am glad to see the discussion on Wikimedia India list to the communication
about the constitution of the EC and election of office bearers. Let me
thank all those who responded and who extended their good wishes.
As the President of the Wikimedia Chapter, let me take this opportunity to
clarify some of the concerns expressed by the community.
Office bearers election:
Wikimedia Chapter is a registered society and we have to conduct the
proceedings as per the MoA. The elections were conducted post registration
as mandated by MoA.
Delay in communicating the result:
Due to the busy schedules, travel plans of some of the EC members the
paperwork following the first meeting of the EC was delayed. Without
paperwork, as an official entity we would be unable to send out a public
statement.
While the delay stays acknowledged, the EC should able to work together in
minimizing delays in future.
Communication:
The chapter got registered just around a month back. And the office bearers
have taken up their roles in the official capacity only recently.
Moving forward, we should be able to ensure that there is focus on better
communication with the community.
Next steps:
We are starting to get a bank account opened. Once it is ready, we will be
able to announce the opening of membership. Please do bear with us in case
of any delays in paper work.
Meanwhile, if anybody needs clarifications, please feel free to write to
wikimedia-in-exec(a)lists.wikimedia.org and we will do utmost to respond at
the earliest.
Thanks
Arjuna Rao Chavala
President, Wikimedia Chapter

All,
As you know, we celebrated the WikiXDC on Jan 22nd, 2011 at the National
Archives and Records Administration in Washington DC, United States. We
would like to present a 3 hour event
video<http://www.mlwiki.in/videos/wikixdc.html> for
everyone to enjoy (and download to keep if you like) . Some sessions could
not be covered/covered at length due to technical difficulties. The event
video was not a part of the original plan, but we are glad that we could at
least this much.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us to make the event a success.
Thanks.
Regards,
Jyothis.

Thanks Shrinivasan. I've copied the Wikimedia India mailing list for wider

I hope the top priority requirements for Wiki projects related to India will be
added to http://wiki.ilugc.in/index.php?title=Projects_List

FYI. We noticed some issues (like some custom tools not working) related to this
in Tamil Wikipedia. Not sure whether all issues are resolved.
Please check if other wikis are affected by this.

Dear Hari and Anirudh,
Further to my message below, could you help me understand why Praveen's
message does not appear in the archive for WikimediaIndia-l, even though
messages subsequent to it - like mine - do?
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimediaindia-l/2011-February/date.ht…
I'm sure there must be some simple technical reason for this, just
asking to understand better how moderation/ archiving works.
Best,
Achal

Subject: Moderation policy on WikimediaIndia-l

Dear Hari and Anirudh,
As moderators of WikimediaIndia-l, could you describe the policy you
normally adopt towards moderation?
Do you only block obvious spam or other messages, and if so on what basis?
I am naturally curious since a message from Praveen that you only just
released seems to have been sent in 3 days ago.
Furthermore, I think we'd benefit from understanding how people may
apply to become administrators on this list.
In light of Anirudh's recent appointment to administrator of this list,
is there an open process by which other members might apply?
(Foundation-l seems to have three administrators, though I would imagine
that there is nothing stopping WikimediaIndia-l from having more than
three).
Please note that I don't ask with persecutory intent, but merely to
clear gaps in my own understanding, which might be a problem that other
people on this list face as well. Since WikimediaIndia-l is such an
important place for all kinds of conversations that cut across the
movement in India, it's in all our interests to know exactly how it is
managed.
Best regards,
Achal
