Hi,
I have a wiki at winterswiki.org. It was discovered by vandals who created 9500 new users and 10,000+ pages in a couple of days.
I disabled access and wiped all the users except known ones off the database, but when I enabled the wiki again new users started being created every minute or so. I disabled anon account creation, but I still have 10,000+ pages of spam intersperced with my real pages.
What is the best way to get rid of the pages I don't want in a bulk fashion?
What is the best way to avoid this and other problems..
Thanks
Dave
There are several extensions that can help, (See Nuke for one) or the abuse filter, along with checkuser

My experience suggests that unless you have good reason, admins should set up new users. In other words, remove self creation of accounts.
Gordo
I had this problem also. I installed the extention "ConfirmEdit", and also set up the email confirmed permission group (see configuration in the article below). I still get spam account signups (but a lot less of them), but they cannot edit pages.

We've had almost no vandalism after requiring new accounts to authenticate with OpenID, https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:OpenID --Fred
Just to add to the list of solutions, we use ConfirmEdit, QuestyCaptcha setup with dynamic questions as described on thinglestads blog:
