# A bunch of the information on my terminals wiki is tabular in nature (infoboxes, code charts, etc.) and might be better queried through a semantic web view.
Does anyone have any experience with upgrading an existing MediaWiki installation to one that uses Semantic MediaWiki?
Are you using Extension:Semantic MediaWiki https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Semantic_MediaWiki ?

Not yet. I hadn't learned about semantic mediawiki until after I created my installation.
Heiya Richard,
I would suggest to first upgrade MediaWiki to MW 1.27 and deal with adding further extensions like Semantic MediaWiki etc. to it in a second step.
If you are using shared hosting when it might be a bit more complicated to install Semantic MediaWiki since it is best installed with Composer. However there is also a tarball provided.
Just have a look at [0,1] for infos on Semantic MediaWiki.
Cheers Karsten

OK, that's what I was thinking too. I seem to recall seeing a bundled-up MediaWiki+Semantic extension; is that really no different than just installing the semantic extension on top of an existing MW installation?

Yes, it's a shared hosting setup, but I do have shell access. Reading on Composer, it looks like it installs everything into subdirectories in my directories and doesn't require sudo access. Is that sufficient just to have shell access or does Composer require sudo rights?
Thanks for the pointers.

You might confuse this with the Semantic Bundle Rob pointed at in his e-mail. However I do no longer recommend the bundle since it was not updated in quite some time.

No, for Composer you do not need sudo, actually it is discouraged to use it with root rights. Well if your shared hosting offers Composer this is they way to go.

On shared hosting the easiest way to install SMW is via https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Semantic_Bundle%C2%A0Then it's just like installing any other extension.
