Is there some way to insert a rel="license" into external links? There is a license microformat (http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-license ) that is super easy to implement if this was available. I think this ability would also help a lot in meeting the machine readability requirements set out in the exemption doctrine policy. Although we may need to come up with our own authoritative fair use urls.
I opened an enhancement request for this if anyone wants to comment http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9666
Thoughts?

"Rel-License is one of several MicroFormats. By adding rel="license"
to >a hyperlink, a page indicates that the destination of that hyperlink is >license for the current page. E.g. with the following hyperlink:
rel="license">cc > by 2.0</a>
the author indicates that the page is licensed under a Creative
Commons >2.0 Attribution Required license."
Imho not really useful entering it for a Wiki, where all pages will likely have the same license. Could be nice teh ability of adding it on the skin / MediaWiki:Copyright
On the bug you talk about the images, but the link would be on the image page, rel="license" means that the image page has this license, but what you want to say is that *the image* has this license.

Yeah, this is an ongoing question with this microformat actually. There is no really great way to specify what page element (short of the whole page) you are talking about.
I think the consensus now is that you have to assume everything, that may not be acceptable for our uses though. I'll poke around and ask on that end a little more.

<rdf license seems more appropiate (check it at flickr).

Yeah, I tried to talk this up a long time ago, and people didn't like the idea. This seemed easier :) oh well.
