I think this is the reason of the problem with WikiSysop password. I had deleted the WikiSysop user on both machines. On the localhost machine I could login as a WikiSysop without the WikiSysop user in the user table !!!! On the distant machine (sicwiki.ouvaton.org) creating a new WikiSysop user didn't work. I had to reinstall on the localhost machine for creating the right user table and copy it from the localhost machine to the distant machine : it works. Thanks to colleagues for the different questions and proposal which drove me to the right solution.

Hello,
I want to generate automatically HTML (or plan text) pages which should be imported to my MediaWiki. It should be possible to reference them from other MediaWiki pages like normal MediaWiki pages. Does anybody know how this could work? Does any tools exist for importing? I didn't find something to this topic on the official pages.
Thanks in advance, Andreas

I got mediawiki-1.4.11 installed properly, however,
I have been through the steps for configuring TeX by installing the following:
- OCaml (Objective Caml version 3.08.4)
- LaTeX (TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.4.5)) and dvips (dvips(k) 5.92b)
- ImageMagick (ImageMagick 6.0.7 10/11/04 Q16)
- Ghostscript (GNU Ghostscript 7.07 (2003-05-17))
And by default, my Linux server(Fedora Core 3) has GNU make installed.
And they are all in the PATH, so when I write ocaml, make, gs, latex, dvips, convert.. from the command-line it work.
That was according to the instructions in the following link: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Enable_TeX
And finally, when I move to <math> directory and run:
make
it gives me the following, without compiling texvc:
ocamlopt -c util.ml http://util.ml
sh: line 1: as: command not found
Assembler error, input left in file /tmp/camlasm69e54a.s
make: *** [util.cmx] Error 2
Is there any solution for this problem?

Do you have a backup bureaucrat or sysop user on that wiki? If not, you will need to reset the password in the database.
Here's a tip Brion gave me: Do a google search for "mediawiki user_password md5"

Hi,
As I understand from my "manipulations" on two MediaWiki systems the WikiSysop is not managed as a user in the "user" table.
On one of the systems it's OK with the WikiSysop, on the other its like I "lost" the password.
Where is the variable with the password ?
Thanks in advance.

P.S. : Former advice by Rob on MediaWiki:Nogomatch worked but with HTML syntax <a href="$1" class="new">link to create the article</a> <a href="/mediawiki/index.php?title=Template:Recommended to create&action=edit"> list of articles to create</a> Thanks Rob

I have a feeling certain bits of wikimarkup are ignored on the system messages, as many require simpler formatting.

Define a "cheap" platform. MediaWiki requires mySQL and PHP. The later versions tend to require/prefer PHP 5 and mySQL 4.1.

I had no problems moving from 1.5rc4 to 1.5rel. Backup the database files, backup the whole wiki folder, then copy across your images directory, set up permissions, and run the installer to configure it.
This method means that if anything goes wrong, you can go straight back to the old setup with minimal bother. There aren't any major major changes between the two versions.

Looks like you're missing the assembler, which is needed to compile; this is probably in the 'binutils' package.
