Hi all,
thought I'd let you know that I've just enhanced my extension for simple tables. You can now format a table by just separating fields with tabs, spaces or commas, all inside <tab>...</tab> tags. See:

Cheers,
Ian

Sounds great, Ian - this will definitely ease the pain of creating simple tables!
When I have some time, I'll look at the code to allow some simple cell formatting, like defining column or row headers. (Maybe that's even possible already; I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.)
You might wanna think of another name for this extension though; the current name makes it a bit hard to immediately grasp this extension's purpose. (The term "tabbed" is reminiscent of things like "tabbed browsing", which might be misleading.)

Cool, I hope it's useful.

No, it doesn't do that yet; I can't think of a way to do that kind of stuff that doesn't end up being about as complex as the Wiki markup. But if you come up with something, please let me know! Probably the best place to discuss this is the extension's talk page, though.

Hmmm, good point...

... which hereby I do. I've done a quick & dirty modification for column headings; when adding a HEAD parameter, the table's first line will use TH instead of TD tags. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:TabbedData_extension#modification:_colum... Shouldn't be hard to do something similar for table rows as well.
By the way: This extension uses raw HTML code (TR/TD tags) instead of wiki markup - is that the way it's supposed to be? Or would a "cleaner" way be to use wiki markup instead? (I know next to nothing about writing extensions, that's why I'm asking.)
Probably the best place to discuss this is the extension's talk page
I'd agree - but somehow it seems deserted and forgotten...

Hi Frederik,
I've done a quick & dirty modification for column headings; when
adding
a HEAD parameter, the table's first line will use TH instead of TD
tags.
Actually, that looks like a really good modification! Nice idea. I've extended it to allow "head=top" or "head=left". I've also added a new separator -- bar (|).
By the way: This extension uses raw HTML code (TR/TD tags) instead of wiki markup - is that the way it's supposed to be? Or would a

Most special pages etc. that I've see produce raw HTML. However, since we're now parsing the result anyway (thanks to Smcnaught for that), I've changed it to produce Wiki markup. Seems cleaner, as you say.

Whoops, sorry! I thought it was on my watch list, but somehow it got left off. Fixed now, and thanks for pointing this out.
Ian

I concur - I think the word "Tabular" seems more appropriate.
