I have found many questions but not an answer that makes sense to me yet concerning how to edit the "toolbox" navigation sidebar. I have found information to successfully edit the MediaWiki:Sidebar but nothing else.
Is it as simple as editing MediaWiki:Sidebar? What is the page name to edit or is it more complicated?
This has been frustrating to say the least so anyone who might enlighten me I would be grateful.
Other than that I really like the MediaWiki software. I am located here: Holistic Operational Readiness Security Evaluation (HORSE) project Wiki: http://www.lazarusalliance.com/horsewiki/

Yes, in MediaWiki 1.5 and higher, it is just as simple as editing Mediawiki:Sidebar. The pagename is, as you say, "Mediawiki:Sidebar".

Can you offer any explanation on why the page Mediawiki:Sidebar shows no effect whatsoever on our wiki? Our version is 1.6.8:

Even after you switch to the MonoBook skin, modifying the MediaWiki:Sidebar page has no effect on the navigation bar or toolbar.
We've found a workaround, by editing the first few lines of the (English!) Messages.php file. So, we succeeded in modifying the links in the navigation panel the way we needed.
However, we'd still like to insert
(horizontal lines) inside the navigation panel to subdivide it further, as there are so many links in it now the panel looks a bit disorganized.
We've found no way to insert
into the navigation panel in the Classic skin, though. We would appreciate any hint whether this is possible.
One final thing about the left navigation panel and the Classic skin: when searching the web for solutions on how to modify the URL associated with clicking the logo, the only solutions offered were only applicable to the MonoBook skin. We'd like the click on the logo to redirect visitors to our site's homepage rather than to the wiki's Main Page. Is there any way to modify the URL path of the logo in Classic skin?
