Depending on budget, A test server in the kitchen and dedicated servers through jonesolutions.com as they have pretty good support. You can have your own server under $200 a month, I use them for multiple servers for over 5 years, no complaints.

The reason why I am asking is because i cant update my installation from 1.16 because i always get an error. I cant run the update.php because i dont have a command line on my shared webhosting.

aaah, SSH Access is the command line? Sorry I am total new to Mediawiki, i just need to guard an existing installation at the university but i dont have an idea how to do that as a student worker. So I can ask to upgrade the webhoster to SSH Access.
