Hi,
when you visit http://www.italien.ch/de/wiki/Hauptseite , you have long waiting times until the whole page is loaded. Why this?
andy
Have nobody an idea?
Have you tried taking out various elements to see if any of them are especially slow to load? On Aug 9, 2007, at 9:57 PM, andy wrote:

Wait time is not long for me in Palo Alto to that page. Clicked around the wiki and didn't find what I would call long waits. Pages loaded in 1 or 2 seconds. Free advice: I'd take "wiki" out of your wiki's path if I were you and just suffice with "de", and that only if those are German pages and you plan to host other languages, too -- keep your URL as clean as possible. But that is a user speed matter, not a server speed matter. Random tip: you have one too many slashes in the "Werbung schalten" link of the page footer.
Good luck,
Hy Roger Chrisman,

The only problem is the first page where I loaded . Are you already on the mediawiki software, the sites loaded fast, it's only the first site I open.

I know ;-D When I made the installation for mediawiki, in the folder /de/ , I have had already other files. I create the folder /wiki/ just for mediawiki.

thank you.
The site is using a cgi script to load php5. I have seen it before where using this will end up in slow load times if the page has not been used in the past few minutes, it may take a bit for the cgi to kick in. I have no proof of this other than my own site I was running using the same way and experienced the same issue.
I moved my site to a true php5 host and it no longer has that issue.

I know that my provider http://www.hostpoint.ch has PHP Version 5.1.6.

The hosting you are on was running php5 through fast cgi. It is cgi, but it takes time to initialize the first time you load it in a while. This causes slowdowns. Moving to hosting that does not run php4/5 at the same time, and ONLY runs php5 may take care of this.
