Hi! I use MediaWiki 1.5 and spanish language; I've a problem with anonymous read permission. If I write this lines in LocalSettings.php, an anonymous user will view all the following pages exception Especial:Search, SiMiDa:General_disclaimer and SiMiDa:Acerca_de. why anonymous user can view all except this 3 pages??
$wgGroupPermissions['*' ]['read'] = false;
$wgWhitelistRead = array ("Portada","SiMiDa:Miembros","SiMiDa:Lineas","SiMiDa:Publicaciones","SiMiDa:Proyectos", "SiMiDa:Seminarios", "SiMiDa:Enlaces", "SiMiDa:Docencia", "SiMiDa:KEEL", "SiMiDa:Ayuda","SiMiDa:Acerca_de", "Especial:Search", "Especial:Userlogin", "SiMiDa:General_disclaimer");
The names of the pages are correctly written. And registered users can view all pages.
Thanks from Spain!!! Bye
I am helping with a (vers. 1.45) mediawiki site, populating and managing the content for someone else. I am quite new to this and would like to find someone who can answer some questions, particularly about security and user access levels.
I do not have direct access to the wiki files, since it is being hosted by a separate isp. At the moment, I know how to create a new login account and how to upgrade it to bureaucrat level, but not how to delete an account or how to secure the wiki so that it can't be edited unless someone is logged in to a valid account. Those are my two challenges at present.
Thanks to anyone who can help,
Rusel
1. Convince the site owner to upgrade to version 1.5.3 if possible. This contains advanced permissions handling which makes your second request simpler. Also, 1.5.3 contains security fixes for issues in the 1.4.x and 1.5.x (pre .3) branches.
2. MediaWiki doesn't contain functionality to delete user accounts.
3. See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Preventing_access for information on restricting anon. editing, account creation, etc.
