Hi all!
I'm seeking a way to get rid of those huge URLs for pages with non-latin symbols in their titles (in my case it's Russian). I found an unresolved request #1450 in mediazilla (http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1450) on this theme, it contains a comment with quite interesting advice (to use page id for it, like /index.php?title=-&curid=1367).
Are there any more contemporary solutions to this issue? Ideally I'd like to have URL for a page in a field separate from Title, perhaps populated automatically with transliterated name of the page.
Thanks in advance, Artem.

1) Use a modern browser like Safari that understands IRIs. or 2) Use swiki instead of MediaWiki.

Hello Brion!
Thanks for your advice. I'm asking because I want to make my wiki comfortable for the users, and I'm surely not going to force them all to use Safari or whatever else particular browser. "swiki" is an option, I'll check it. I'd like to use mediawiki though because it has features (markup in particular) of a popular wiki which means less cognitive dissonance - for the users again :)
For now according to advice in comment for mediazilla #1450 I made "short link" item in toolbox, it's like http://my-server/index.php?title=-&curid=1 It's of limited use but still works.
