Peter Blaise responds: Two points:
1 - other lists I belong to republish to the web and cause the display of email addresses to become non-functional (by puting spaces in the email address, eg. me @ isp . com, or truncating them, eg. m..@i..c.. and so on. Is this automatable and easy and acceptable to contributors here?
2 - Spam happens, get over it. ... and blaming non-spammers for spam happens, too, I guess. I'm getting over that right now! ;-)
3 - The list archives are public anyway, see http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/ (and http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/2007-May/020195.html and search http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-l/2007-May/thread.html for "reposting" for THIS very thread!)
4 - No one sends spam to anyone who posts to an open source discussion group because they know we're too cheap to pay for anything! ;-)
Okay, 4 points.

This, and other Wikimedia mailing lists, are already reposted to various web-based "threaded view" type sites, e.g. gmane.org, and no-one has raised significant objection to that.
Of course, your email doesn't actually make any sense, since there's no context, so I'm really only guessing at your question.

gmane is a bad example, as it uses functional encrypted e-mail addresses. http://gmane.org/tmda.php In fact, i'm not sure if any other reposter is showing the e-mail addresses. A search for my mail address only shows snteam-events.blogspot.com (the originally reported one) and spteam-lists.blogspot.com

He's answering to the "Public Reposting of this List" thread startd 8 May. Probably to http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.org.wikimedia.mediawiki/20300

I like your point, but spam bots don't know about the topic when catching addresses. In fact, they're boring, they only talk about viagra...
