Seen as category pages work even if they DO contain no text, treating them in the same way as a nonexistent article is unhelpful (especially to newer users who only think they see a broken link). I was thinking that perhaps category links could be red if they contain only the page they are linked from, blue otherwise. Text on a category page is largely unneeded.

This has been discussed before, and such a change was made, and then reverted due to user complaint.

Category pages are intended to provide descriptions, which can include explanations of the criteria required for a page to be included, as well as a general overview. I know of projects which transclude parts of an article into category pages, for example. I therefore beg to differ with the assertion that text is unneeded on a category page.
