Hello to all!!!
I need your solving a problem with the faculty hosting. I'm trying to install MediaWiki 1.10.0 in the server, and it needs php5 to run. The server already has Php5 but in cgi mode, by default it uses a module PHP4, and it's the one that mediawiki recognizes :) The server admin told me to rename all .php files to .php5, but they are 596!!!
Do you have any idea about what can I do for using PHP5 in cgi mode instead of PHP4 by module mode!!???
Well, I will really appreciate your help ;) tnkx a lot.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Robchurch/Getting_PHP_5_on_a_cheap_host contains two solutions; one is almost certain to work, but the other one is a lot cleaner.

By the way, I want to use memory caching in my "cheap" hosting, but mw installation says: Couldn't find Turck MMCache http://turck-mmcache.sourceforge.net, eAccelerator http://eaccelerator.sourceforge.net, or APC http://www.php.net/apc. Object caching functions cannot be used. what do u suggest!?

If you want caching, you'll have to install the appropriate engine. If you have shell access for your account, it should be possible, if potentially complicated to set up on a shared host.

Ask the appropriate people to install APC.
