Some users (including me) have previously reported
strange "500

bug caused by debug_backtrace that was introduced in MW18. (seem only
to crash certain server configurations)

It would probably help if you and others experiencing it could describe
under what circumstances the problem occurs.
For instance:
'When I perform action X, the problem often occurs.'
or
'When I perform action Y, the problem never occurs.'
Does it happen on every page view? Only on certain actions? Always?
Often? Rarely? Randomly?
Did it start immediately at the upgrade, or after some period of time?
Does it stop happening and start again?
Can you describe some details of the certain server configurations that
it seems to crash?
When I commented out all lines containing
debug_backtrace, the 500
errors disappeared, but the page layout of Monobook started to behave
strangly. The navigation menu at the left was hidden by the main page
content.
That's likely a transient CSS caching issue.
