I have installed mediawiki on Linux Redhat ES Release 4, and am getting this error, when I try to run the config:
PHP 5.0.0 or higher is required. ABORTING.
When I check the PHP version with
<?php phpinfo(); ?> I get PHP Version 4.3.9, which is the highest version the Redhat offers on this platform (not sure if it is really PHP 5 or not, but suspect it may be 5, and is just the way Redhat does their versions). I have used an older version of MediaWiki 1.6.10 which works fine. Any way to get past this ABORTING error to upgrade to the latest MediaWiki? Thanks. Bob J.
MediaWiki 1.6.10 is the last version to support PHP 4, I believe.
So that's the highest you can go as it stands.

No, the version is coming from PHP, which knows what version it is. Red Hat doesn't muck up the version numbers upstream like that.

Upgrade to PHP 5.1.x. MediaWiki 1.7.0 and higher *require* it.
