Hello all, Is it possible for an admin to setup an account for someone in advance? Second question: Also, what would be a good way to setup a front page for people when they first come to a site? One wants to have a front page that explains things. Is that just called Main Page? And a simple cheat sheet, quick start guide would be good. I don't want to overwhelm people with a large document that they must read before getting started... well that defeats the purpose of wiki, which means fast. Can I see examples of how some of you have done your wikis? What are some good pages that would be desirable to have when starting off with a new wiki? What did you mean by switching your skins to Vector? I see a few skins that came with mediawiki. On many other sites you might have a Table of Contents or menu system to show people what kind of content exists. Being somewhat new to wikis it did strike me that I do need some way to show people what we have here on the wiki... some people on this list must have an external wiki they can share... what would you do to give people an idea as to what content exists? I guess one could start by showing something in the way of the most recent edits, or new pages. I'm having a little bit of a hard time with this, I don't know why. My natural inclination is to present everything through menus, making it easy to find everything. How do people make the contents of a wiki easy to find. When you are first starting a wiki, you won't expect your users to search for articles because they'd have no expectation of expecting that much to exist on the site. I did find a list of sites in English that use mediawiki but sometimes suggestions are better, from personal experience... how did you get your wiki to take off from the ground floor when you just start? My use case is intranet wikis, so I can't show you examples. I tend to keep it called "Main Page" because that's what it's called on Wikipedia, which people are used to. It's a brasilian wikimedia chapter initiative<http://br.wikimedia.org/wiki/Sexta_po%C3%A9tica/en>intended to group several poets. Nowadays many poets from many cities around our country have joined this wonderful venue. Each week the admins (currently are four) choose a poem among those posted by any of participants. Hi on intranets inside organizations my experience using wiki had also been successful. I designed a trainning platform mediawiki based for Bank of Brazil, the bigger financial company of latin America, with 120.000 employees and more than 5000 agencies worldwide. We organized some worhshops with board members assessors for sharing basic tips and afterward they themselves had written pages which were courses about company stuff. Some of people throughout all country eventually became wiki experts and contributors sharing their doubts, opinions and insights, making it function as a knowledge management tool. Setting the default skin so people at work will see it and think "ah, like Wikipedia, not weird."
