If I'd like to do very simple modification to the footer (e.g. Add a <br> before the "about" link), which file and in which section of that file should I look at?
Another unrelated question. Wikipedia.org has a line "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia." displayed on every page. But I don't see such message displayed on my wiki, even I've customized the Mediawiki:Fromwikipedia. Is there a flag I have to turn on? I couldn't see anything in LocalSettings.php.
Thanks -- John

For the MonoBook skin, you can edit templates/xhtml_slim.pt (in 1.3) or skins/MonoBook.php (in 1.4). Be careful, as invalid XML will break the PHPTal template (in 1.3) and bad PHP code will break things in 1.4

The stylesheet for MonoBook normally hides it except in print view. Add something like this to your [[MediaWiki:Monobook.css]] (or hack the files) to force it on:
#siteSub { display: block; }
(It's normally on in some of the other skins.)

Or just open the language file, search for the "fromwikipedia" and replace {{SITENAME}} with Wikipedia.

Thanks Brion.
The Monobook.css change is a breeze. I'm now trying to make sense of the PHPTal template. :-) -- John
