Sorry for the blank message, what i meant to say was...
Wouldn't it just be easier for people, specifically this person, to read the entire message and then see 'oh click here to remove myself'.
Brings me back to the 90's when i read 'remove me from this list' which i think should be followed by 'because im too stupid/lazy/ignorant/self important to do it myself'.
If the person in question is offended by my response then... good.

There's no way to stop people from sending unsubscription requests to the list. People have always done it and they always will. It's best if they just get unsubscribed with a minimum of fuss and list noise.
Usually the list moderator should do this, but note that anyone can cause mailman to send a unsubscription confirmation email. You just type their email address into the listinfo form, click "unsubscribe or edit options", then click "unsubscribe".

Wow Jerry,

This is an amazing read. It's fascinating you should think all this.
I'm glad you're also keen on offending people, because we need people like you in our underground plan to wipe out 'that element of the human race' who always cause a 'problem'.
Seeing as you have no problem with offending, this is good news, and we will add your email address to our network for exterminators in the new reich.
Great to have you aboard!

IIRC, If you're running anything older then a recentish trunk build then .docx will be detected as a zip file since that what it is. There's recentish commits to handle these types of files better, but fairly certain it's only in 1.17.

Thanks for this, that's pretty depressing as we have many docx files to upload. How would we go about moving up to 1.17?

I have removed the extra entries in mime.info and mime.types. I have changed to:-
$wgFileExtensions = array('png', 'gif', 'jpg', 'jpeg', 'doc', 'xls', 'mpp', 'pdf', 'ppt', 'tiff', 'bmp', 'ps', 'pps');
I've saved the document in Word .doc format and using the markup:-
[[File:AgreementV2.doc]]
Gives me the same error:-
"File extension does not match MIME type."

I have tried many ways to get around this problem unsuccessfully and am very glad to hear it (may) be fixed in 1.17. If you do find a solution please post it. One thing to note, if you save a file in Office7 as a "doc" file, instead of "docx", it is still going to have the docx mime type (zip).
For now I suggest to my users to do one of the following to get their Office7 documents into the wiki:
1) Save the document as a PDF, then upload the PDF file. 2) Contact me about uploading and I will temporarily turn off mime type checking ($wgVerifyMimeType = false in LocalSettings.php).
I prefer method (1) since Office files, when selected by a wiki user, open in an Office application, like Word, which is an editor. It is tempting for users to make edits and then save thinking that it will save back to the wiki when in reality they must save to their computer and then upload it to the wiki. A PDF file will open in an adobe reader eliminating any confusion about editing the document.

It turns off mime type checking. I believe you can then upload anything that has an extension listed in $wgFileExtensions, which is why I remove it only temporarily since it opens a security hole (e.g., uploading a malicious zip file masquerading as a png file).
