Me again :)
I was looking for a sitemap extension and found a reference to the script: maintenance/generateSitemap.php
So, load Putty, run 'php maintenance/generateSitemap.php' and I get the error message that the script needs php5 to run, and I'm running php 4.4.6 (which I do, using a htaccess modifier to trigger php5).
My host says that if you need to run individual files as php 5, you could rename the extension to .php5
I've tried that, and tried running the script again, but got no more luck.
Does anyone have other ideas on how to get this generated?

Find where your host keeps php5. For instance, with DreamHost, to run MW maintenance scripts, you must use /usr/local/php5/bin/php instead of php. "whereis php5" could help you find what you need, though your host should be able to tell you.

Thanks for that. I had just asked the host a moment ago and got their response at the same time as yours. They have suggested using the path you're suggesting (not using DreamHost though).
Unfortunately, getting a "file or directory not found". but I'll sort this out with them at this point. This is a hosting issue, I just thought maybe there was a wiki related work-around :)
Thanks for the asssistance
Note that some distros of GNU/linux used on on servers use php5 not php. At Wiki-Tools we use a Debain VM right now, and even though we only have PHP5 installed, the binary we use is not php but php5 so you can try using "php5 maintenance/generatesitemap.php". I have a feeling this is a Debain thing, and as they are running Debain this is probably what you are supposed to be using.
