Hello guys,
I'm using the editor from the UsabilityInitiative but whenever I insert some text with special formatting the formatting itself gets lost and the text will be placed alltogether in one line.
Some example on this code:
/** * [FooBar] skin * * @file * @ingroup Skins * @version [#].[#].[#] * @author [name] ([URL] / [E-Mail]) * @license [URL] [name] */
Now try to insert it in my wiki: http://wiki.ziesche.de/w/index.php?title=Hauptseite&action=edit (but please don't save it, it's just for testing purposes) And then how it should be on Wikipedia: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Am_Brunnen_vor_dem_Tore&action...
What could be the reason for this behaviour?

This bug, https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22428, seems to be at least part of the problem.

Hello Fred,
I don't have Safari so I can't prove it but as I said I, I have this bug with Firefox, Opera und Chromium - but only with my editor and not with Wikipedia's.
That's the strange thing.

Confirmed. It is possible that you are using an older version of UsabilityInitiative extension than the one in wikipedia.
Try with the "Development version (trunk)" version. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:ExtensionDistributor/UsabilityInitiati...
I really thank you for this hint. That was exactly the problem. Now it works flawlessly. This was also the point I wondered about that I don't have the same buttons within the editor than wikipedia has.
So is it generally recommended to use the development trunk version of extensions even when I have mediawiki 1.16.0 and not the svn version in use?
I always took the adapted version of the extensions.

No, not generally recommended. It could be that it didn't work in 1.16. But in this case, a) The UsabilityInititative extension has got a lot of work b) Wikipedia is running a version quite similar to 1.16 c) 1.16 had that nasty bug
Thank you for your explanation. Especially to b) I have a question.
What special version of mediawiki is wikipedia running?
And is it generally useful to use the development version of mediawiki instead of the official stable releases?

It is called 1.16wmf4. It's 1.16 with some additional changes.

Depends if you want to be on the bleeding edge or not. You get all new features and fixes, but you get also affected by the new bugs, so although they are usually fixed quite fast, you need to be aware of that (and report them whenever you find them, of course).
