Hi,
I try to install MediaWiki 1.18.0 on tuxfamily.org, but I can't connect to db, although I use the same db name and password as on http://phpmyadmin.tuxfamily.org where I can connect to db.
I did not change the default db user name = root
I get the message
DB connection error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) (localhost).
so what can I do ?
sincerely
Klaus

Try 127.0.0.1 for the DB host instead of localhost. MySQL treats you as a different user depending on what host you come from, so connecting via TCP can require a different password to connecting via the UNIX socket.

Hallo Tim,
I already tried it, it tells me
DB connection error: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111 (127.0.0.1).
Klaus
Try connecting with the CLI MySQL client? Are you sure the server's even running at all?

Hi,
the problem is resolved, the name of the server is not "localhost" but "sql". Thanks for help.
But now I have a new problem:
The installation created a mysql db. I deleted it to import the content of an older version of the same wiki, by importing the sql file. First time I got an eror message I forgot, second time it worked, but now the wiki tells me at http://linueve.org/:
A database error has occurred. Did you forget to run maintenance/update.php after upgrading? See: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading#Run_the_update_script Query: DELETE FROM `msg_resource` Function: MessageBlobStore::clear Error: 1146 Table 'linueve_evry.msg_resource' doesn't exist (sql)
How can I correctly import old db.sql ? Do I have to reinstall the wiki to recreate db first ?
sincerely
Klaus

I did not upgrade the wiki, I created a new one and I imported old db. Did I have to run the update script?

Yes, because when importing an old db it's exactly equivanet to having an old wiki and installing new files, so you also need to run update.php in that case.
