OK, since no one has responded in a couple of days, I suspect that
the answer is no (or everyone's too busy to check).
So, I think I'll try to work up a way to do this. But I'm not seeing
a way to do it through hooks in SpecialSearch.php, which means that I
may want to do it by extending the SpecialSearch.php class so I can
use a custom version that overrides the methods that display the
results. But I'm not seeing where to hook to use the alternate
search page.
I'm looking into the LuceneSearch extension to get some ideas on how
to do this. But if someone can point me in the right direction, I'd
appreciate it.

Is there something I can set to strip wiki markup from
search

search=flgb&go=Go
This could have been avoided with more careful planning and template
usage, but to retrofit, I'm looking at changing ~25000 pages.
